My go to bike for getting about is single speed, people don’t understand how much easier they are just to fly around on, I wouldn’t want to go hill climbing on it

that adobe clay is the worst. Coming from the south with our red clay, this stuff is way worse. I got caught out in July back in 2006 on my first weekend after moving to western colorado. didnt have proper gear as it was sunny and warm. within 30 mins i was soaked from rain, then snow. figured i was done for. luckily i knew how to read a map and barely got out before it got dark. i knew better, but still lesson learned.

Well done! I believe you are right about just figuring it out. My enlightenment was crossing a wide shallow stream and I did not want to get my feet wet!! It changed everything after learning that.

Ha! I think I forgot to mention ratcheting as a way to keep your feet dry. I totally do that too.

This was so fun to watch! Thank for for taking the time to put it together. Man, I wish I didn’t eat it early in the ride, I think that and some other variables effected my ability to clear that darn climb. 🤣 I don’t remember it being that windy, glad we didn’t blow away! Can’t wait to ride little creek or grafton with you. 🎉

Love the trialsy stuff... I run a 30/22 for this kinda riding. Gotta have a zero engage for quick pedal resets, and hopping helps too! Great Vid. This is what trails is all about friends, and fun just playing out in the woods!

Rad. There are plenty of great blue trails in Sedona. I have yet to ride SS, but have ridden hardtail once or twice. I’m curious which trail/trails he rode in Flagstaff.

You're a considerate guy, Thom. We all know that you could have easily ridden these trails on your Honzo single speed but you didn't in order to not humiliate your buds. Well done.😉

People still ride this way?! Everybody seems to wanna keep it moving rather than session so their bicycle Facebook times look good. I’m an oldschool skater (49) and session any/everything worthy. Hope to meet up with you out on the trails someday in and around RI/MA/CT to session it up!

Funny, I'm a 90s skater and I think that's part of why I like these types of annoying sessions. Though I do try to throw my bike less than a used to throw my board.

Welcome to Rocksylvania right?! I haven't been back to State College in a min, but Tussey is def one of the best trails at Rothrock. Nice job to the both of you. Still hoping you can make it to Reading PA someday Thom. We got some Rockward worthy riding for you.

Dude, I like the rigid forks. It’s about time. Droppers are for sissy’s. Lol. I’ve raced SS since 99’. Rigid all around SS. Keep it simple man. Yeh, I’m in MI now and it’s easy for me to say keep it simple but, I raced in CO, AZ and UT on rigid ford SS. Don’t mind me I’m just old and confused. Stay seam!

the craziest part of this video is Randy going UP the drop at 16:20. Hit that yesterday and it is not nearly as small as the video makes it seem.

Have any other requests for singlespeed videos or just skills videos in general? Lemme know!
@Jakebdean
@Jakebdean 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Thom! I can think of a few general skills topics that would be great to get your perspective on. What about: 1. More technical climbing videos where you talk about your line choice and whatever else you think about during your tech climbs. 2. Drops to flat or just drops in general, sometimes I find myself landing a little nose heavy on these drops to flat on New England trails. 3. Cornering on flat corners, the technique on flat corners we find on lots of New England trails seems quite a bit different than bermed corners. 4. Log hopping I know there are some videos out there by others on these topics but I love hearing your angle on topics like these. I think you have some of the best MTB content on KZbin, keep up the awesome work!

Great content for both geared and SS. For me, ratcheting on a skinny is more about maintaining balance than speed. Ratcheting is great to get over the lip when you are overgeared.
