I have to say, the level of English in Cyprus is quite low. The local populace is not fluent at all. And it's strange because the signs are almost all in English, hardly any Greek. In Malta, it's spoken funnily and with an accent but generally people are more fluent. Unless you work in healthcare, you don't need Maltese, and if you don't know it and work in healthcare you're trained to learn it, it's not a prerequisite. Sadly, the trash collection and the trash situation is where Cyprus truly comes out on top. Cyprus is truly a clean country in most parts .. I mean not spotless but mostly clean. Malta cannot be considered clean in the slightest, and the garbage collection system doesn't help!

The Albanian tourist joke is because Albania was closed during communism so no one was able to leave the country. Therefore the joke “Albanian tourist” became widespread meaning something was impossible
