I really like the floral moon wreath you made! So pretty. The dangling sea glass is charming. The pale blue hydrangeas and silver sprigs in the black foliage are like a bit of moon glow peeking through the clouds. I think leaving out the purple hydrangea was a good call because that's a much warmer colour than the cool blue, even if they are both pastel. In a different wreath, they could've gone together, but not this one. I read on a crafting blog a few years ago that it's possible to use wire cutters and floral tape to turn round wreath frames into crescent moons, for wreaths where the frame is fully covered. Palate-cleanser projects! Decompression projects after a Big Project! It's important to give yourself space to breathe like this, to avoid burning out. Very smart call.
@mildlygothicАй бұрын
I've also seen some videos around on how to make a crescent frame! It doesn't look to hard, but I'm glad I was able to use an existing one. I think the colors all ended up working so well together. Definitely a final product I'm really really happy with. I love hearing your thoughts and feedback! And the support for the little projects

These are very cute! I like the drops of 'juice' falling from the citrus slices. Also I like how you used the pith (the white bits) as guidelines for where the chains attach. The lime earring in the thumbnail gives rainbow vibes since it's an arch. I prefer the ones with all the same colour of drops. If lime with all-green drops feels too matchy-matchy, lime with all-white drops could be good. I think my favourite is the grapefruit because of the funky angle. If you cut up two cans and fold the circles instead of cutting them, would that be thick enough not to slip through the gap in the jump rings?
@mildlygothicАй бұрын
Folding them is a great idea! It would probably take some practice to get the fold precise, but I really like that idea. I just hate the actual cutting up the cans part, which it would require more of, but that's a small price to pay for stability! Yeah I've never been the happiest with the limes, I thought about all white but it just didn't feel right to me. Maybe it was too contrasting? But it would be worth an attempt. The funky angle of the grapefruit is so fun! It's between that one and the lemon for my favorites. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and ideas!

This is a lovely tribute to your grandmother and a charming addition to your home decor. Have you ever seen those hand-operated nutcrackers that look like the handles of a set of pliers? If you put the squeeze bottle into one of those, with a rubber band around the handles so the bottle wouldn't just slide sideways when the nutcracker was compressed, that extra leverage might help you use the outliner without hurting your hands so much.
@mildlygothicАй бұрын
I have seen those, it's not a bad idea. Definitely would require some kind of grip. Depends on how much the application of force changes. It's unfortunately still a squeezing motion so I'm not sure how much it would help, but it's certainly something to try!

The clear fillable ornaments make a great outer layer for eyes. I've seen a few other cosplays and puppets that use the same trick, and it makes the eyes look eerily alive.
@mildlygothicАй бұрын
That's actually what I used! The inner layer was a ping pong ball because Im not good at reverse painting the inside of a clear dome. So I did a ping pong ball inside and covered it with half of an ornament

Hi!!!! Loved this video, your rambles are very fun :3 the cosplay looks absolutely fantastic, and I'm excited to see it get even better!!!! Definitely giving you a follow :3 I was Barney Calhoun from the Half Life Franchise for Halloween!!! Specifically hl1 and blue shift because hl2 Barney is HOT but his uniform is a whole project that would probably take a few months. I got to paint big old splatters of blood on my face (human and alien, of course, I mcguyvered the Xenian blood by tapping out a yellow liquid eyeliner with a spare sponge applicator and then going over it with a few different shades of eyeshadow, then used a white eyeliner pencil to mark in that weird glow that it has in the game textures lmao). I think I'm gonna rotate the cargo pants I got for the costume into my normal wardrobe, they're honestly so damn comfy, and I love the shade of blue. Dunno what I'm gonna be able to do with the helmet and bulletproof vest though. Next year I'm definitely going to be Adrian Shepard from half life: opposing force. Wish me luck finding a fucking gas mask and helmet that will fit on my head together. Also I might try my hand at prop making for the first time, my fav bioweapon you get to use in game is the shockroach, I want a little blue alien bug emotional support creature that spits out electricity jdkdh. Not sure what materials would be best for it, but I have a whole year to figure it out!!! (Hope this massive word count makes the Al G. Rhythm love your video so much)
@mildlygothicАй бұрын
That sounds like you've made one incredible cosplay and have plans for another! Don't be scared of prop making! Doing anything for the first time can be daunting, so I recommend not using your ideal materials the first go round. Figure out a good size, shape, and maybe some good finishes for what you want the end product to look like and take every screw up as a learning opportunity! I'm sure you'll figure it out and end up with an awesome final product. Thank you so much for subscribing and I'm glad you enjoy the content!

@therealCrazyJakeАй бұрын
I believe that it’s mostly a matter of intent; if your goal is to transform into the character, that’s a cosplay, regardless of if you made it yourself or bought it. Cosplay generally involves constant improvement to get yourself more and more into character, paying attention to detail that most people might miss on a first glance. Most of my cosplays are “store bought” (ordered online), with quality and detail as my focus when buying, and I’m always looking for ways to improve upon it. Some of my cosplays are put together with thrifted clothing (like the Guide outfit for my Betelgeuse Cosplay), and at least one of them is entirely homemade (my Peter Pan/Banning cosplay). The term itself is a portmanteau of costume play. So, I feel like so long as the intent is becoming the character, as opposed to just dressing like the character, that makes it a cosplay. And cosplays of all methods and varying qualities are all valid, just be mindful of details if you’re entering a competition.

I know you had mentioned previously while painting the sandworm about your paints not being very pigmented or not very opaque. This problem in very common in gloss finishes of acrylic paints, I suggest using matte acrylics instead. Making a DIY gesso using some pva glue, plaster of paris and acrylic paint(in a color you would use as a primer) not only makes your actual paint have a better coverage, but it also gives the paint a textured surface to adhere onto and you might not need to do so many coats for the coverage wanted.
@mildlygothic2 ай бұрын
That's an incredible tip! Definitely something I'll keep in my back pocket Unfortunately I think part of my problem is just the quality of some of my paints, they're just a bit cheap. But I mostly try to work with what I have to save money. But I seriously appreciate you taking the time to give me some advice! It means a lot, and I hope I can use it in the future!

Would you ever sell it or do commissions for the worm?
@mildlygothic3 ай бұрын
I'm flattered you ask! I think it'd need a lot of polish and some refinement before it would be ready for anything like that. I'm completely self taught in basically everything I do, so before selling or making it for someone else I'd want to make sure it's as polished and strong as possible! If someone wanted to purchase or commission something from me I'd be down to consult! No guarantees on a final decision. I don't feel confident in labeling myself a professional. This project has been an incredible journey and is still not done, so commissions in general probably, but for this worm? Idk if I could part with it, and I would have no idea what to ask for a price. The footage I share is only a fraction of the work that's gone into making it. So it'd be quite an expensive piece to recreate. I'm genuinely flattered you ask though. I hope you'll stick around to see the project through to the end!
