Just noticed this...Do you have to do a single YB/XA switch through this entire game? Or is it just YB? That makes it more palatable although still virtually impossible for 99.9% of kaizo gamers.

When I saw this the other night I decided to fire up Baron 1.0 to celebrate your new WR and immediately regretted it! These runs and mind boggling Revolug! It seems like a lot of the best kaizo players out there are musicians that likely got started young and as a result have the best eye hand coordination.

As I am trying to learn it myself (using your video at 0.75 to practice actually!) I am amazed at the cleanliness of your playing! Any suggestions on how to nail it? To me, it comes natural to use a lot of legato, but it seems like you play all the notes, am I right? Also, on my 6 string I have moved some of the notes around but maybe this limits my ability to play them fast enough hmmm... Anyway, again, amazing playing!
@revolug3 ай бұрын
I do play all the notes, since that's what adam neely does in the original recording (i'm pretty sure). what helped me was paying very close attention to which right hand finger i'm using to play each note (either index or middle) and making sure to never accidentally alternate fingers more than I practiced. for a song like this, getting out of sync with what you practiced in terms of whether you're using your index or middle finger for each note is fatal. sorry you can't see my right hand very well in this video to make that easier for example I start the bassline each time by hitting the intial low C with my index finger, and because of that I had to make specific fingerings so that I wouldn't end up playing it with my middle finger instead any of the times its repeated. also, when the riff cuts out and starts one beat later than it usually does (at 1:07) i have to make sure to start playing on my index finger or else i get out of sync again. for getting this at tempo, you really need to feel the quintuplet pulse and accent the first note of each quintuplet group slightly. this sounds silly but it honestly helped me to imagine myself as some sorta quintuplet robot instead of a guy playing the bass. just a weird mental thing i guess also even though I learned all the notes for this song in a day, it took me about 2 weeks of practicing and quite a few takes to get it clean enough for this video at full tempo (there are still some mistakes too!) so the song is just really hard and takes a lot of practice to get right. I've never played on anything but a 4-string so I'm not sure if using the extra strings would make this song harder, but i think it works perfectly well on a 4-string (which is what adam neely played this song on originally) i've thought of making a video lesson on this song going through my specific fingerings and which right hand finger i use to pluck each note and where i do alternating strokes vs. raking down the strings (you can see me rake a few notes at the last quintuplet group of the bassline, for example at 1:25) but idk how useful that would be edit: i just checked and adam does do some legato. oops
@SchuldinerLA3 ай бұрын
@@revolug I appreciate your in-depth reply so much! My biggest takeaway is surely the attention on keeping the right hand consistent, makes a lot of sense in cases where muscle memory has to be perfect. The quintuplet accenting is something I am doing (but I think with a different mental image ahahah) and it does help. I moved those high notes at the end of the two parts (4th and 8th bar) to the 6th string to avoid too much horizontal movement, but I'll have to check if I am losing something in speed. Regarding legato or not, ultimately it's a matter of getting the accents and "flow" right, but it may come down to personal preferences. Anyway, if you'll end up doing a video on it, I'll make sure to check it out 😉

Very cool. Some of these setups (e.g. 0:54) look like they're straight out of a pit hack and I love it. Another thing I like is how "slow-paced" the section at 1:27 is, I enjoy this "one setup at a time" approach to building kaizo levels. (Tiny layout complaint though: why is the controller in the bottom right? I feel like there's some relevant gameplay being covered up there; the stream layout looks cleaner imo)

the idea was that it would be easier to see the inputs and compare them to the gameplay but yeah i can see some parts are obscured, like the ending of the section at 1:27.
