Haha yeah it’s cool. So far I find it’s been easier to get percussion grooves out of it more than anything melodically useful, but I’m sure I’ll get the complete hang of it eventually. Fun little box though. Btw, love your vids, man! Thanks for dropping by!

@fertilesound, I believe the sale happened largely because of a number of bad management decisions and component costs. Moog really failed at implementing an intuitive way to change firmware settings in a standalone way for synths like the Grandmother and Matriarch, and also made design decisions that prevented them from implementing a settings app for Win/Mac and Android / IOS deices that would sync up with the synths. Plus the costs of components were getting too high for them to make ends meet. Apparently they overbought certain components that was really hurting their cash flow too. I think it took too long for Moog to produce new and unique synths. it got to be really slow for a long time. Since they were and somewhat still are a premium brand, I would expect them to have brought more new modules in the Mother family of Eurorack synths out to the market. What they're doing with the Spectravox and Labyrinth is awesome, but I wonder if the Muse will really bring much new to the table since it's apparently based on the Matriarch voices and the price is substantially higher than even the Arturia Polybrute 6, which offers much more in terms of modulation options.

The placement of some of the knobs and decision of large vs small had me scratching my head. Why is U mix a large knob and decays and cv range small? And decays are awkwardly next to the patch bay. Thats really my only gripe with this synth - but jeez its annoying

As far as I know, digital controlled oscillators (DCOs) are actually true analog oscillators that are just synced to a digital clock source. The part of the DCO that is doing the oscillating is analog- producing an analog waveform! They were invented in the 80s as a way to avoid the pitch instability of VCOs. So technically, not a hybrid synth which actually has digital oscillators and analog filters / amplifiers.
@fertilesound_15 күн бұрын
It’s an interesting point you make. Behringer and others call it “hybrid” I assume due to its use of DCOs. I think it comes down to a matter of semantics when referring to the oscillators. Some people consider DCOs “digital” because they are controlled digitally, whereas others seem to make the distinction that the waveform must be purely DSP-generated for it to qualify as “digital”. The WASP certainly doesn’t use DSP to generate the waveforms. From what I can tell looking at schematics online, it uses a 555 timer around a 40103 chip to generate the waveforms, I.e. a “DCO”. But I would tend to agree with you, to clear up confusion around the whole VCO vs DCO / analog vs digital murkiness, that to be considered truly “hybrid” a synth would need to be using a digitally generated waveform into otherwise analog circuitry (VCF, VCA, EGs, etc.). Thanks for posting, great discussion topic!

I was trying this on my Korg MS20 Mini, a few days ago. Provided I patched the sample & hold into the Total input, it worked fine, but if I patched it into the Frequency input instead, I got nothing. The input does work with the wheel, so this is mysterious, to me. Maybe it's an impedance matching thing? Does the same happen on the K2?
@fertilesound_25 күн бұрын
Hi, it sounds like maybe you need to turn up the EG1/EXT knob on the Frequency Modulation, instead of the MG/T.EXT? Total input is normalled to the Modulation Generator. Frequency input is normalled to EG1.
@TooSlowTube18 күн бұрын

Were the replacement knobs a similar coated type knob? If so they are just going to get sticky again in a short amount of time. Honestly hoping the replacements don't have a coating!
@fertilesound_Ай бұрын
The new ones do have the soft coating as well, but I read in a couple places that they changed the supplier or the manufacturing, so the new ones don't have the same problem. I have to think they fixed it because these knobs are standard on all their hardware, including the high-dollar ones like the PolyBrute 12. I guess we'll see!

Hello, I'm starting my adventure with modular synthesizers. I have a few questions. I asked on Behringer's official Facebook profile but no one bothered to respond. So maybe you can help me. I will be very grateful! - Is Behringer K-2 patch panel Volt/Octave or Hz/Octave? - Will K-2 work with Behringer Neutron and Pro-1? - How many cables can be connected to patch panel inputs/inputs via splitters? Thank you in advance for Your response.
@fertilesound_Ай бұрын
1. Hz/Volt (not Octave) - www.perfectcircuit.com/signal/synthesizer-tuning-standards 2. Yes, for the most part - except you would need converters for the pitch and gate CVs (see #1) 3. Great question! I don't know. I have never found the need to go more than 3 or so and it seems to work fine, but eventually there is a limit per Ohm's Law and such, right? 🙂

If you process the sound through the esp and use esp output instead of regular output you get a good sounding and controllable overdrive. Took me a while to figure it out, though it's a popular trick.
@fertilesound_2 ай бұрын
Yeah, absolutely! There are so many options. The way I did it was more of a "send" type routing, where you still hear the original signal but can blend in the overdriven side to taste. But taking the direct out from the ESP is another great trick. Thanks for posting!

@fertilesound_3 ай бұрын
No, sorry to hear that, mine works fine. Keep in mind you have two volume knobs - one for each of the oscillators, and one main volume knob for the whole unit. Beyond that, the envelopes need to be set a certain way or you might not hear a sound. Maybe check out some default settings like this one if you haven't already: www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/behringer-wasp-how-to-create-a-sound/. Good luck!
