My 2011 F150 XL 5.0 192K miles does the same exact thing upon higher acceleration or steep hills. Anyhow, I’ve seen videos on how to fix the newer models but for the 2011-2014 F1 50s, What do we do to fix this? I read your description but is there anyway you can reach out and be a little more specific? I would really really appreciate it as I just bought this truck a month ago.

That's the dang sound thats hard to explain to anyone because I cant produce the noise with my mouth smh I changed out the check valve and the solenoid to no avail yet. Guess I need to follow it further down but this does help to know it could be the same problem just not the right spot in the lines. Maybe one is disconnected, who knows but better than taking to a shop to change out my differentials, bearings, etc.

That’s your IWE solenoid or check valve. When you’re driving put it into 4h and if it stops the sound that will certify the issue. It’s a 50 dollar part and 5 minutes to fix

My truck is doing the same thing 2017 raptor, took it into a local mechanic shop they think it’s my timing belt.. truck has 75k miles on it and I barley drive the thing so I didn’t that was right, going to try it in 4wd to see if the sound stops and they quoted me 6k for the repair lol

I have a 2010 with the 4.6 2 valve 4wd with a shifter on the floor. Went on the freeway . Started hearing this noise only when accelerating.

I have a 2003 ford f-350 Super duty 6.8 exhaust has been changed manifold and manifold gasket has been changed the catalytic converter was stolen off now has a straight pipe I has my mechanic cover everything and this noise is still their it’s irritating the shit Out of me can you guys share a picture of where I can look and show my mechanic

My 2011 Hyundai elantra is making that same sound now and and stops when making left turns or pressure to the left turn side but just an annoying scraping....im still investigating the issue.

I got the same sound in a 1997 Lincoln Mark viii. I'm thinking it was the transmission. I wonder if there are any hub actuators for the traction control system. These are the same transmissions that are used in the f150s and other Ford vehicles. letting off the gas when this happens stops it immediately. Now I just estimate the rpms before it does it, pedal shift, and just glide, and repeat when needed. it died do it occasionally if I'm not paying attention.

My 2015 F150 was doing this same thing. I replaced both sides IWEs, wheel bearings and replaced the check valve and solenoid. I tested all the lines vacuum and it all checked out fine. So I got desperate and I pulled the vacuum off the solenoid and drove it for a while with no sound. I then checked the vacuum coming off the engine and it was fine. So I was about to replace the lines but decided to buy a Ford check valve and that is what finally did the trick.

Yup... my 2014 recently started making this noise ..... thanks to all the commenters for giving me ideas on what to get checked out.

Thank you guys for these comments I’ll check vacuum lines first n fly wheel second. It makes grinding sound mostly when accelerating but now worse n doing it at all times when in drive 2wd 4.0

Similar Sound my 2010 Expedition makes when accelerating at low speed. I don't have a 4x4 though. What else could it be besides IWE? It's 100% in the front end.

Check the check valve going to the 4x4 vaccum silinoid the check valve can be bad not allowing enough vaccum going to your IWE leaving them partially engiaged.

I had this issue to I replaced everything from hubs to hose. To transfer Case motor and check valve /solenoid.. still happened.. so found more videos turns out it was a heat shield on the exhaust and one on the back in the bed

Would this cause the truck to feel like it has no power or reduced power while accelerating? Have this problem with my truck right after a transmission replacement. Mechanic is saying it’s the hub actuators but never had the issue prior the the transmission replacement. Totally stumped. Think I got a bad trans and also have a leak in the vacuum line at the same time.

Does it only do it when accelerating fast from low RPMs or from a complete stop and then the noise goes away once you're at the end of first and into second gear?

Making the same noise too just off a bit of acceleration and when braking I recently got a flat on my front right could it be the hub? Or the axle? That could of gotten damaged

Exactly what my truck is doing I have a 13 f150 w 3.7

My 2016 had a similar sound that only really occurred around 1000rpms and randomly when accelerating. I could only hear it with my windows down. It occurred with 4x4 on as well. Turned out to be a snapped hose clamp that holds the heat shield onto the exhaust.

I have the exact same issue and noise on a 2016 limited. When I flip to 4wd the noise disappears. Going to try replacing the actuator as explained below...seems like a simple fix. This is the part I ordered tonight and will update if it fixes. Ordered from Ford dealer online...“7L1Z-9H465-B”

After two long years of this horrid sound I finally figured it out!!!! I’ve been to and asked several mechanics about the noise and no one could figure it out. But today! Today I found out the problem and solution! It’s was a freaking snapped Hose clamp!!!!!!! That’s it! The clamp was snapped in half allowing the heat shield to rattle against the exhaust..... I’m so happy right now.
