Hey Justin, I’m here in Valdez for a few weeks waiting on the silvers. My question is about fishing. I’ve got a peddle kayak that’s rigged up pretty good for fishing. Are there any places I could catch rockfish, maybe halibut, or just any kind of fish off my kayak here in Valdez? I peddled around today and it got windy on me before I could get into any kind of deep water. Any tips help man, I’m a 100%’retired veteran just looking to fish!

We’ve only went out to around Pony Cove so far… roughly 25 miles. We spend more time in PWS than Resurection Bay, but really hit Resurrection Bay for the silvers. We’ve got a bigger 28ft boat now, which makes overnighting possible.

@@KyleScheib That’s essentially what we have! The 289 is just a slightly newer version of the 2859 by what I understand. Great boats. We may be actually selling ours and upgrading in another couple years to a Nordic Tug 34, but have to save some major funds first. Even if it doesn’t happen, the 2859’s and 289’s are perfect for extended stays on the water. We’ve done two weeks on ours and still wanted to stay longer!

The one I use is a Rikon 70-220VSR, but if you’re only doing duck calls you can get a smaller one. I honestly don’t know much about other brands, as this is the only one I’ve owned, but if I was knowing I was only going to do duck calls, I’d probably have went with a mini lathe to save space.

@JustinBeyerlin1
@JustinBeyerlin1 11 ай бұрын
We repowered this year with a 2023 383 Mag Stroker. Prior to that, it had a 350 MAG MPI, but it got salt water in the cylinders and seized. The 383 Stroker is 350HP and does well getting on plane. Top speed is about 35 mph, which I know isn’t the fastest in the world, but it’s perfect for us and we never feel we lack in power we need. It’s running a Bravo 3 outdrive, which has been great.
@Jumpshiptravel
@Jumpshiptravel 11 ай бұрын
@@JustinBeyerlin1 thanks for the quick reply. The one we are looking at has a 350mpi with a Bravo 2. We were just trying to figure out if it would be underpowered with that set up or not. Any opinion?
@JustinBeyerlin1
@JustinBeyerlin1 11 ай бұрын
@@Jumpshiptravel No problem! I personally liked the 350 MAG MPI. It didn’t have any problems getting on step quickly, even with three adults, a full tank of gas and full water, and loaded full of enough gear for 3-4 nights out on the water. Some may say it isn’t ideally powered, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy the same boat and motor combo all over again.

@JustinBeyerlin1
@JustinBeyerlin1 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t have a fuel flow sensor on it unfortunately, but the fuel efficiency wasn’t the best. I only owned it for about a year before getting a little larger ocean-going boat. I think my jet needed shimmed pretty bad, which likely made the fuel consumption worse than it should have been.

I only chose the 60psi because I’d read that in a few places. But, I’m always learning and no opposed to trying new things! This epoxy I’m using takes a full 24 hours to be close to ready to turn though. I figure it doesn’t necessarily hurt to leave it in overnight if I can’t turn it anyways :)
