Try 2 on the RSX as I did in the video
@timdark92822 күн бұрын
The reason TLOU works and less intensive games don't is all down to heat. TLOU will run the RSX and CPU hot, which heats up the tokins. When tokins get heat, they revive, and this turns a failing tokin into a workout one. With a less intense game, the console runs much cooler. This means the failing tokin isn't getting the heat that's required and the failing tokin fails! In extreme circumstances, you may need to add more to the other side of the motherboard. I have only ever had one console that needed this. In most situations, this solution should be enough. Make sure you have 2 tantalum capacitors on the CPU and RSX.

Hello there! Came across your videos and you're the only one on youtube who addresses this issue. Thank-you firstly. I have a ps3 slim, the middle model. Modded with webman and multiman during covid 2020 with modded warfare, games have been working fine in iso downloads and discs till this year. It gives out 3 beeps and dies with red flashing light. I've heard scraping sounds on the disc drive so I thought of removing it. Wolfenstein iso works fine, mafia 2 runs for a bit, both of these being 720p games. Watch dogs and cod a.w, gta5 seem to shut in a few moments after starting to play. Its greatly frustrating and dissapointing as I've transported the console from another continent, and I really want to play on the 3, held myself back from buying the 5 just yet. I'm worried dust is a contributing factor here but I can't open it myself and clean it. Let alone repair. I can take it to a shop but I don't want to get ripped off. What do I do? What could be causing it?

Firstly, go to ps3toolset.com and get the syscon error codes. I show in the video how to do this. This will help to diagnose the issue. Post the first 5 codes on here and I will explain what you need to do next.

@timdark9282Ай бұрын
@Pvt.Joker64 you don't hear the fan once you turn the sound up of the game. Serious gamers wear headphones anyway. If you ran it on syscon, it would reach 32 percent over 30 mins anyway. The difference is that if you let it do that, the temps would be in the 70's. Running ot at 32 percent from the outset keeps the console under 65 degrees, avoiding flip chip and BGA defects.

It's likely to be the tokens. Using your PS3 browser, go to ps3toolset.com. Once the main page had loaded, click on the middle tab at the top called system manager. At the bottom of this page, expand the error32 tab. Now, post on here the top 5 codes, I can then confirm what the issue is for you

My console needs at least 71 degrees for ps2_emu to boot properly, then if temperature will drop below 70 ps2 games freeze and I have no idea what to do because my CECHA was retrofitted with 40nm RSX and all NEC/TOKINs were replaced.
@timdark9282Ай бұрын
@Haker112 what caps where used to replace the tokins with? Do you have a picture to refer to?
@timdark928229 күн бұрын
So, I have a theory that this issue may be down to wrapping of the motherboard. It's well documented that changing the RSX, GS, and EE chip has no effect, and the issue remains. The motherboard is subject to a lot of heat during the RSX swap, and thus heat could potentially warp the motherboard. When the board isn't completely straight it's possible that traces could get kinked and if one of these traces is responsible for communicating between chips that are responsible for PS2, then this could cause freezing or no boot. The reason it works when it reaches a certain temperature is because the board can expand and contract at certain temperatures. This could straighten out the trace and restore the PS2 playback. So a long slow bake could restore the motherboard to the way it should be resolving the issue. It's all theory at this stage however I have restored 5 PS2 consoles using this method with no failures so far

You need to replace the laser in the disc drive. Or buy a whole new disc drive on my eBay store. I have had a bad disc drive give a YLOD. But in this instance, when replacing the laser it will play ps2 games. The nectokins job is to keep the console cool.
@timdark9282Ай бұрын
@Itzretrogaming I am aware of the issue you're talking about. This isn't that. This is a known working drive from another console, which I remarried using custom firmware. This issue is well documented online. The console needs to get hot in order to successfully play PS2 games. I also installed the game to the hard drive, and the issue remained, even though it was reading the game from the HD, not the Blu-ray drive. So, like I said in the video, it's a failing component that can be revived by heat that is the issue here. This is most likely the NEC tokins or the RSX itself.

Nops2 can be caused by a number of things. Missing components on the ps2 circuit. Bad ee/gs and/or bridge chip. Ive seen it be a bad rsx and even a bad nand. Cant say ive seen tokens cause it yet (although i guess anythings possible). Ive also tried all the previous fixes and nothings worked on some consoles. Nops2 doesnt have a one fix solution. If i had to guess, id say some boards just have internal traces/connections thay break and are unfixable. If i ever get a nops2 board, i do a visual inspection first, if i dont see anything missing, i cut my losses and move on.
@timdark9282Ай бұрын
@Johnny_LuvBuckets Hi, this deals with a particular version of noPS2. It's when the console will only boot a PS2 game when it runs hot. When it's cold, it goes black screen. This particular scenario is well documented online because of the nature of the problem it poiins to failing capacitors or an RSX issue.. I haven't seen anyone replace all the tokins to try to solve a noPS2 issue, and it's more than feasible that failing capacitors could contribute towards the issue. Saying all that a noPS2 issue that doesn't boot no matter how hot the console runs could literally be anything, I'm also reasonably sure that in some cases it's a software region issue that prevents it. Thanks for your valuable input and thanks for watching 👍
@Johnny_LuvBucketsАй бұрын
@@timdark9282 I've yet to come across that particular nops2 issue. Usually people either get black screen with or without sync/menu. Both victor and ace tried replacing almost every component on the PS2 side of the board. It hasn't fixed the issue. That's what makes me think those particular boards might have a damaged internal trace. I've found that protecting underneath the bridge chip and eegs during rework has reduced the number of nops2 Franky's I produce. I use a layer of kapton tape followed by aluminum tape. My evidence is anecdotal, but I feel like it wouldn't hurt to try on any future Franky's you do.

@timdark9282Ай бұрын
@mugenmaniac1598 Baking the console can realin RSX flip chip errors and bring back failing capacitors to life. It's for this reason that this particular version of the infamous NoPs2 issue is likely down to bad capacitors or an RSX issue. That's why, in this video, after adding tantalum caps and baking the console for 3 hours, the NoPs2 issue is resolved. However, it's worth pointing out that there are other versions of this issue that are likely down to other failing components, and this process wouldn't nessasery work on those

Hi, I appreciate your input on this issue. I’ve had my old PS3 slim since about 2010 when the model was first initially releasing. It’s still somewhat functional, however I detect there maybe some overheating or might have gotten YLOD since it keeps turning on and off. Every time I boot it up, it immediately turns off. I repeatedly have to keep pressing the turn on button until it reaches a stable point where it stays on. Some games with demanding GPU performance surprisingly work whilst the other half don’t. I don’t want to bin the console because of the sentimental aspect nor do I want to pay for a repair as I would likely be better off buying another used console. I’m assuming it is in fact YLOD because I see the yellow light when it turns off just briefly. Is it worth dissembling the internal system and cleaning it up or would you reckon it’s done for?
