I'll put in a good word for his guitar playing here. I've always regarded Shindell as a terrific acoustic guitarist. Check out his work on "Wisteria," live from Columbus, Ohio. He also sang another of his songs, "Reunion Hill," in Columbus (Six Strings Concert series). It is heartbreakingly beautiful. If you're like me, you'll play it often.

Tom's 'The Circle Game' is a great classic and not received the accolades due to it his versions of Joni Mitchell songs are great interpretations and are actually musically better IMHO 😉

Hard to know what's more beautiful, Tom's soothing voice, his ringing guitar or Joni's evocative lyrics. Sublime.

Yes, I was smitten by this song the very first time I heard it on British Radio, played, inevitably, by Bob Harris. Sam Baker is an unusual song writer in the nature of what he chooses to write about, and the lyric of this song is of a level that is rarely achieved by any song writer. I see a connection with a very famous poem by Thomas Hardy called During Wind and Rain. It is essentially, it seems to me, the same theme. I have never seen the music for this song, but I have kind of worked it out on the piano. It is remarkably simple. But then, the best songs always are.

Re: the extra bars of music... Richard sometimes has trouble remembering lyrics to songs, so it may be a bit of treading water.
