This reminds me I need to buy more abalone shell veneer before the chance to get the stuf from China becomes any more closed off. When I first moved to Sweden we could buy small packages and not worry about duty fees. But now EVERYTHING is taxed and we must pay a HANDLING charge for even paying the taxes and that is a flat rate of like $5 or 10 depending on the value of the item. Anyhow if you are working with wood like oak, that abalone veneer is rather easy to work with. I layer it between an extra layer of tape where I am cutting then just cut it with scissors, along the line I drew on the tape that traces the pattern or shape of the hole I am cutting it to fill. Then anything will hold it in and give it a nice protective layer from epoxy, to uv cure clear coat for fingernails, you can even cab it off by glueing it to the back of quartz or glass and polishing it off but not for inlaying likenI am talking here. You can ALSO use a Dremel flex shaft tool to inlay the side of beads, marbles , glass, agates…. And you can even light them from the back with a single strand of very very low voltage lights running at a lower voltage to last almost indefinitely. You drill a light tube for the backs , fill the hole with hot glue which will carry the light for quite a distance to the back of an inlayed transparent object. This way you can even use one single light for several back lit objects. Ok no more YT comments section at 420.
