Hi, I hope you have a nice day. I have a question. Is it ready to drink or does it need to be distilled again? And how do you get rid of the strong alcohol smell? Thank you

They make bucket lids with screw off lids for pouring. Also if you use a cloth bag or even a sheet stuck down in the bucket and tied over around the top edge, then you can dump the whole pan of water and grain into the bucket. Then pull the bag or sheet up and close the top and start twisting it down tighter to squeeze all the fluid out. No need for a screen an no more spilling it all over the floor

Are not those plastic buckets leaching in some toxins at those temperatures…a cheese cloth at the bottom of you funnel. Would capture any left junk.. love the vice grips .. your wife allows you do this in her kitchen .. bless her heart

FYI: drinking destilled water is really bad for your kidneys because it washes out the salts in your body. Salt deficiency in the extreme can kill you, but long before that you will have many health problems from it. Your body needs minerals. Minerals present in so called sweet water. Destilled water has zero minerals. It's no drinking water.

What is always wanted to know wow how do people know how much they need to throw out from the heads, how long is the run from the hearts (body) and when the tails begin. There must be some kind of ratio of pot size -> heads ratio. Larger stills for example will have a larger amount of heads which can be tossed out. Can anyone help me out with this?
@Dheuedbv
@Dheuedbv 5 ай бұрын
Not a ratio. It’s about what’s coming out at each temp level.
@Dheuedbv

68-78 degrees Celsius = heads. 78-82 = best hearts. 94-100 = tails

@@DheuedbvThis comment is super helpful, thank you! Also, do you have to have tails already to add in? Is it like a sourdough starter, you can't make a batch without adding tails? I've never made moo shine for before so I don't have this

Great video. Love it. Me i always made a batch from buying everclear 190p 1gal grain and i always be buying the distill water, cim sticks, with blueberries and cut the everclear down to about 60p so then i have 1gal of clear 1gal of blueberries and like a half of 120p/190 for those energy drinks/redbull mixs but now prices in our days now goin up im thinking of ordering a vevor 5gal just so i can stop buying everclear... can you use regular bread yeast from the store or dose it have to be that kind u use since im sure it would be better to use yours because its actual alc yeast then sum bread stuff lol

Do you have to use gallons of water if it's in fact boiling? Or is that just an easier way to measure?

Why wouldn't you just weigh yourself and the empty bucket on a home fill the bucket to your 4 in as you say and then reweigh yourself with a full bucket you now have an accurate measurement instead of that weird crap with the tape measure

I toss the first 100 cc to be sure the methane is removed then after that I do the flame test. If the flame is yellow that means methane. If the flame is blue or clear that means ethanol.

Very nice video...I made moonshine many times in ireland , we didn't use grain ,just 50 lbs of sugar and one pound of yeast, makes about 4 or 5 gal, your right about the first stuff that comes out ,you don't want to drink it, I knew a few guys that went blind after drinking it., your video brings back great memories when the police would be sniffing around.

This is about basic and easy as it gets there could be a few steps you could taken to ensure your product(PH, Starch, Gravity, a Siphon, was your grain cracked or milled, amylase maybe, a pound of milled barley added)but other than that as long as the end result is what you want. Nice Job, I usually get about a 5 fifths of a 6gal run @ 92 proof when said and done.🥃

Awesome video...I know how you can get the alc% up .. when heating original mash up...use a masserator to grind everything really good...at 150deg add in Amalayse A...let it breakdown as you cool it to 140deg At 140 stir in Amalayse B to further break down polysaccharides...then let it naturally cool and pick up where you did with the sugar. The only other thing is adding a yeast nutrient before the yeast...but the Amalayse breaks down the starches to a degree just not possible without

Put a tap on the bottom of that bucket so you can sit it on the counter and put the fermentation jug on the floor and turn on the tap. That way there is no mess.
