Honestly the difference in his voice and the official recording is so clear and the hurt and the disgust and disappointment. He sounds like a brother or father telling her story.

I've watched this and the original version so many times, but it only just occurred to me that the chains she shows him bound around her feet aren't some sort of tether to death akin to A Christmas Carol's Marley ghost. They're the chains he bound around her feet after he beat her and threw her into the marsh to drown - so she'd be weighed down and not found. No body no crime. They say she drowned herself in the marsh, but if they saw her body and the injuries and wounds both new and old, no way in hell anyone would buy that story after a post mortem. So she's coming back to haunt him and the other "bastards" as a cautionary tale - and rubbing in the fact that no matter how hard they try to bury their crimes, they can't hide from ol' Luanne. And she's not leaving anytime soon.

The control she has in this song is absolutely fantastic. If you've heard her before, this isn't exactly how she sounds all the time, so she's manipulating her voice to match the song, which she also does for "The Ballad of Sara Berry" and it's just phenomenal. Her normal voice is great too, but when she changes it for a song or role, that's where she shines. It's beautiful.

People are going to hate me for this, but I think this is my least favorite version that I've heard. I've seen some people belt this song out and, in my opinion, not a single one is as good as Jay Armstrong Johnson, but this one particularly annoyed me. I think it was that little "Amen" at the end. Not how it's supposed to be sung. I noticed a couple other liberties she took, but that one just bothers me and I can't get past it. Sorry, it's just my opinion and obviously, you're entitled to your own!

Hail to the king!! And Lindsay? Awesome sauce! Now, I adore Ryan Scott Oliver, and he's a phenomenal writer and, obviously, singer, and don't kill me for this, but I like Jay Armstrong Johnson's version better. I guess that's why he was on the performance lol. But you still did better than I ever could.

I am absolutely enamored with this song, especially this version! Katie belts it out with such raw passion and unparalleled power! I've lost count of the number of times I've replayed this video; it's almost embarrassing! Her expressions and the way she brings the characters to life are beyond epic, they're perfection! Every time I hear her sing the "God loves Luaaaane" verse, it sends shivers down my spine, and I never want it to end! If only there was a studio recorded version! That would be the only way to elevate this masterpiece even further! Wow!!

Wow, 3:08? And the "Praised Be, Amen" at the end? Seriously? Like, WOW!! His performance did things to my body that I wasn't sure I could feel again. Joke, joke, I'm not that old lol. Need to watch this another hundred times and then go take a cold shower hahaha. But in all seriousness, he really put his everything into singing that song. You can see how he's telling the story with his facial expressions. He's phenomenal.

That drum beat is a little too loud for me in this rendition. I don't know. Lindsay is just so phenomenal and thankfully she can mostly sing over it, but still. Too loud.
