Hi, Scott. I stumbled across your video while searching for information on what kind of magnification power I need in order to spot defects in coins. I was ready to tear my hair out with all the "10X"..."12X"..."20X"...and all the way up to "60X" or more magnification levels in jewelry loupes. Never mind "single lenses", "double lenses" and "triple lenses" that didn't mean a thing to someone like me. Thank you for making my life suddenly easier, especially with showing the difference in where one would have to hold a viewed item as well as what that viewed item would look like when using a 10X versus a 20X magnifier! SEEING the differences are so much better than just hearing the words. I'm now going to look for a 10X triplet. :) Also...SUBSCRIBED! :)

Do you have a video of how to use the boiler grobet by any chance? They have all manuals out there except for the boiler unit.

Thanks for the video! Just bought one to use in my coin ring making business an am waiting for it to arrive. I was concerned about pressure and volume of steam but your video laid those concerns to rest. I am hoping that with ultrasonic, steam and electro cleaning, my select pen plating quality will increase. Thanks again! Flipforitrings.etsy.com

hinges always go first through the machine, not only one the folder, but also the platform. Also, there is one side that says it should go on the bottom (i.e. the platform). ;) This side is up in the video. Easy to overlook when you're busy explaining. :) Otherwise nice video ;) love the lighting, too.

We have a flex tool with the 3 prong bit holder for the hand tool. It's made by euro tool. The entire bit piece has fallen out and won't stay in. It doesn't look like it's broken in anyway but the entire bit keeps falling out. (The piece where the chuck goes into to tighten). Is it magnetized or something? Please help
@FDJtool7 жыл бұрын
The Jacob's chuck isn't seated correctly in the handpiece. I would check with your supplier, but I have been told that it can usually be set back in place using a rawhide or rubber mallet. I can't attest one way or the other that it works having never tried it myself, but a jeweler has told me that's how he was told to fix his.

What I like to know is how much is the Tumblr and do you get everything with it the one you demonstrated and does it clean rings with diamonds in it it will not harm the diamond
@FDJtool7 жыл бұрын
You can find tumblers on our web site be following the link in the description above. Tumblers are not for cleaning. They don't remove dirt and grease. They polish by abrading away metal. If that is what you are wanting you can put stones with diamonds into a tumbler, but beware! Loose stones can easily get knocked out and worse, diamonds with flaws can be broken by the action of the media.

Sorry no, we stock primarily tools for working on metal.
Wow! I agree, once you have everything in place to open the case back: with a firm pressure then slowly turn counter-clockwise to open the back. Remember, do no harm! Scott knows what he's talking about, so please listen to him if you wish to do thing correctly.

Will the light last a long time and is the light replaceable. I almost bought the Ottlite because I checked it out and I really like the way it magnified and illuminated small items, but the reviews say that it dies out quickly and once replaced the same thing happens. Thanks for the review.
@FDJtool7 жыл бұрын
LEDs should have a lifespan of at least 10's of thousands of hours if not more. There is currently no replacement for the LEDs since, according to the warehouse, there hasn't been a need to stock them.

wait where are you going Scott. come back. which triple should I buy? I want to see detail and correct coloring with no glare. I have to be able to know the gems and their colors. I need to read markings on the rings.
@FDJtool8 жыл бұрын
You should buy the triplet you can afford. We have a variety of them on our web site here www.fdjtool.com/Category/1898_1/Triplets_Loupes.aspx Get the biggest lens you can. That way you will have the biggest field of view making it much easier to see things even if there is some distortion around the edges.
@escokid698 жыл бұрын
can you use it on wood
@FDJtool8 жыл бұрын
Not as it is. First, the diamond bits are the wrong bits for wood. Second, this tool has low torque even with the right bits, it would be good just for surface etching, not deep gouging.

How do I know which way I look through the loupe or does it matter?
@FDJtool8 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter which way you look through the loupe.
@s.l.36738 жыл бұрын
Very clear video. Thank you. I do wish it mentions a bit about maintenance, if any. He mentions not to use it when water runs out, but how could one tell when water runs out (until no steam comes when pressed)? And, how do I drain the water from the unit for storage or transport? Do I just wriggle it upside-down after I unscrew the cap?
@FDJtool8 жыл бұрын
You are actually correct on both accounts. You will know when the water level is getting low, when the pressure of the steam begins to decrease and sputter. If you wish to drain the unit, cool it completely before unscrewing the fill cap. Turn it upside down over the sink to drain. The unit is way less than 10lbs so it's not difficult to handle.

coult you fit .125 plastic in there, like how much clearance does the area the die have to fit material in there? could you potentially fit for instance a sheet of 1/4" plastic in there ,or would that be too thick to fit?
@FDJtool8 жыл бұрын
If you leave zero room you can squeeze a ¼” sheet into the gap, however, doing so would most likely put a scratch in the surface as there is a tiny nub of the punch that sticks down. If it were me I would go a hair smaller than ¼” just to be safe.

I have a 3A. How much shot should I use? I have only 1 pound now and know I need to purchase more. Do you recommend 2lbs or 3 lbs?
@FDJtool8 жыл бұрын
The 3A tumbler can hold a maximum of 3lb total (shot, water and workpieces). Having 2lbs of media is generally a good amount since that leaves you plenty of leeway for the water and pieces to tumble. Just make sure that the 2lbs of media doesn't fill the barrel more that 3/4 of the way.

@FDJtool8 жыл бұрын
Everyone is different. As stated in the video, you will need to figure out which one you will need by finding what working distance is comfortable for you. Work on your subject comfortably and measure the distance from your eyes to them and buy the Optivisor that most closely has that focal length.
