I agree the Tonex noise gate could be improved, but having threshold almost maxed out is not how gate is supposed to be used in the first plaece.

I did that for the sake of demonstrating the issue :) It's obvious that moving the gate pre or post amp makes no difference at the moment. Both are triggered by the guitar (pre amp), choosing the "post amp" option seems like a fake option that only moves the gate visually but not functionally being triggered by the distortion.

A lot of prog guys do that , There are even gates that will trigger the DI signal just so you get a quicker response. It can make some rythmic playing way tighter. Although i agree that the feels is kind of weird. I don't think either way is wrong.

Of course theres use of having the gate first, the problem is locking it to that position when it makes the thing near unusable for other applications :)
