Thanks for this. I remember back in 2006 I downloaded an mp3 album which was basically a compilation of Let Go demos and of all these country songs. I must say I really really liked Touch the sky. Her voice is much more superb and clear singing these songs you wrote Stephen. Thanks for having all these recordings/videos! I hope in the future she'd record a country album with you as the main guest. Greetings from Argentina (South America)

@@stephenbrucemeddmusic9399 that's awesome! So we are distantly related. Thomas Matthews (Peter's son) left Pickering for Michigan and settled in the thumb area. My Grand Father Alvin Matthews, was the oldest of George Matthews, who I think there was one more Matthews between him and Thomas. There's a sizeable clan of Matthews in Northern Michigan where I live. Some went west to Wisconsin and Minnesota. Mostly daughters who have different last names. But at least my one cousin and my brother and I have the Matthews name. I'd love to bring my family one day back to Pickering to see the monuments and memorials for our famous ancestor Peter. God bless!

I've loved Avril for a long time - I mean I used her as the main character in my novel Avril's Knight - but her main style of music isn't really mine, but I'd still listen to her when It came up - then here on youtube I ran across her early early stuff doing gospel and country and oh my God my admiration for her went even higher. God bless her.

It's been very interesting seeing all these videos chronicling Avril's first steps in music before commercial success. If you don't mind answering, as someone who knew her then, were you surprised by the "skater girl/pop punk" direction she took with her music and her image or did it seem natural and fitting for the girl you knew? Thanks.

Hi there. Thanks for checking out my channel. When I think about my younger self, I’m not surprised with the musical direction Avril took. It’s a time in one’s life when many things are changing fast. A time when you are searching for your identity outside of the walls of your parents’ house, including your own musical identity. When I left home I remember discovering and loving the Punk/New-Wave Music scene. Decades later I’m writing and loving Folk Music. Evolution.

Hi Sean, this was in the summer of 1998 before the Oct 3rd Harvest Fest (aka 1st Quinte Spirit Fest). We called this festival the Nessie Days which was a variety show on the banks of the Napanee River at the historic Macpherson House. I wrote the Nessie song as a feature of that festival

In 2022, I served as a humanitarian aid medic in Ukraine. It was both hell on Earth and the greatest possible example of beautiful human dignity. It felt as if we were enveloped in a fog of evil that rolled in with the invaders. With every horrific casualty, war crime, every innocent little girl, little boy, mom, grandma violated, maimed, killed, all I felt was deeper hatred - I was becomming evil. Periodically, the shelling and casualties would abate. For a little while, I could pop in my headphones. I stumbled onto some of Avril Lavigne's B-sides and lesser known music. I found 3 pretty songs by Stephen Medd sung by a big-voiced little girl. If only for a moment, a handful of songs transported me to a place of peace and innocence. For a moment, I felt human again. Those songs kept me alive so that we might help others. Mr. Medd, the two of you saved lives well beyond mine. That's the power of music. Feel good. You earned it. Thank you and thank her!

@stephenbrucemeddmusic9399 Thank you. That's a truly beautiful song. You have a new fan in Southern Canada aka Minnesota. We do a far bit of humanitarian aid stuff and it came to me one day, The greatest gift I ever received was the opportunity to walk beside someone through their darkest day. Can you imagine somebody allowing you into their world when they are most damaged and vulnerable, and giving you the opportunity to maybe help make it a little better? That's what you do for someone every day.
