Sofia! So sad to hear your initial reaction to USAian culture and our apathy toward the natural world. Great to see you home and with your family!

Majo's got me appreciating mountains better than ever, tearing up at the images of her grandmother, and newly inspired to crush the patriarchy.

Thanks so much for having this conversation! You've inspired me to look into the "social safety" protocols in my lab/department.

I was supposed to attend this, but was sick from my disability and missed it. Thanks for putting it on youtube! I can't say how much I appreciate this talk. I am multiply disabled by illnesses that are currently generally invisible, with my most disruptive illness being episodic, which makes it particularly difficult for those around me to understand/believe. I think this talk covered a lot of important things that people without disabilities don't think about. I hope I can use it as a resource in the future to try to help those around me better understand how best to accommodate me and any other disabled individuals they might work with. The points about "Nothing about us without us is for us" were particularly helpful and made me feel really seen - I think productive, open communication is one of the biggest barriers I face, and a particularly difficult one to break down. Thank you so much Dr. Byers for giving this talk, and to the organizers for making it happen and putting it here on youtube where it can be a resource for the future!
