While i really liked your explanation. I really was offended at calling spin bowling sneaky . Well spin bowlers need to be intelligent, its an art. In fact one of the most legendary spin bowler is an Australian. The subcontinent produces more spin bowlers due to the surface its played being more grippy very indusive for spin

Cricket balls were traditionally red. When evening play beneath floodlights began, they started using white balls for clarity. In general, white balls are used when part of a match might occur under floodlights.

Not bad, a few minor inaccuracies but overall pretty damn good. It's a hard game to explain to anyone let alone people that have never seen it or heard of it before. Test cricket in particular has so many subtle nuances and strategies, it's like a chess game in some ways. Greatest sport in the world, in my opinion at least.

Half knowledge is very dangerous. Red and white balls are not symbollic. They weigh different , they have different magnitude of swing . And as test match the jersey is white so red ball is used.

A couple of updates: in 2021 a new super-short format (the Hundred) was launched in the UK with each side facing one innings of one hundred balls. To make this work overs have been cut from 6 to 5 balls.. A sort of world championship has also been introduced for test cricket. Every two years the two top-ranked teams play a one-off test match against each other to determine a new world champion. New Zealand win the first and Australia just beat India to become the second world champion team.

LBW, btw, doesnt just mean your leg. it can hit you in the head and you be given out LBW. A runout is determined by the person running to the end that the wicket is broken at. So if the batsmen run and "cross" (meaning they run past each other) its the batsmen running from the other end thats out. if the batsmen start to run and stop to go back, its the batsman closest. Quite often in this situation you can end up with both batsment at the same end...and one of them will elect to step out and take the "out". If BOTH decide to stay in their crease (the safe zone), then the batsman that LEFT the unmanned end (ie, the one that ran to the other end), is out. By the way, one of the "other" ways of getting out on your list is "retired". A batsman that retires is not, actually, out. They can rejoin the innings later a commence batting again, though this doesnt happen except in the most dire circumstances, because they have usually retired "hurt" after being hit by the ball or something

Outs are a rare thing in cricket unless it's an England batting collapse.

Circket is complex and absorbing which is difficult to play well. People only say it`s boring if they know nothing about it. Apart from the techniques of batting and bowling, there is the psychological side, time-pressure and the weather. There are 32 separate fielding positions and it is part of the captain`s job to set them. The it is the job of the bowler to trick the batter into making a mistake and to try and limit the sort of stroke batters can use in the attemot to score runs. With 11 players in a side, there is one bowlewr and one wicket-keeper so there are only 9 fielders to cover a large area of ground. Well done.Good explanation. It is also quite dangerous, being hit in the face on the hands or arms can lead to broken fingers or bones. ONe reason for Bradman`s success is that he almost never hit the ball in the air. He taught himself with one stump and a tennis ball on the back wall of his family house.

@MrRelaxedanderson

Not really. He played over 70% of his matches against England who were by far the strongest opposition available at the time. He had very little opportunity for stat-padding with most of his matches being against bowlers like Harold Larwood, Bill Voce, Hedley Verity, Maurice Tate, Gubby Allen, Jim Laker, Alec Bedser etc. Not exactly a bunch of dobbers. Not to mention the fact that he played on uncovered pitches with huge boundaries, a little twig for a bat and no helmet. The fact that no one else has got anywhere near The Don in 75 years despite the game becoming much more batter-friendly shows just how special he was.

Great video. For an American for who cricket is an alien game, you definitely did some hard homework. Covered almost all parts of the game. Yes, you did have some mistakes but that's ok. But one thing you could have added to the presentation was to tell about Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the best batter cricket have ever seen, technically and even by many recorded greater than Sir Bradman. And he is called as The God of Cricket.

Your list of popular sports has a couple of bullshit entries, namely gridiron and baseball. Making out there popular international sport is a load of shit. Your sports is like your beer, shit. To say cricket is more popular only because India and Pakistan have bigger populations is racist. Typical Yanks, thinking your sports are superior. All the time baseball is full of overweight slobs and football is a girls game. Wankers. No wonder everyone hates yous.
