Considering the level of frustration, that was a really fun night anyway!! Oddly, though when we got off Warzone I had a notification of an offensive chat warning which makes no sense because I had my mic set to party only, and had all the other last words/prox chat off. I thought party only means that even random teammates that we squad up with are not hooked up to chat, unless that has changed and now randoms get added to the party until they quit on us.🤷‍♂

I didn't, i may try and revisit this topic in a future video. There have been several iterations of WLED since I made that video, so who knows, it may now be possible. Thanks for dropping a line!

Found this about the EN BUTTON….. On an ESP32 with a USB mini port, the "EN" button stands for "Enable" and essentially acts as a reset button, meaning pressing it will restart the ESP32 by momentarily cutting power to the chip, allowing you to reload code or reinitialize the device; it's essentially a way to trigger a power cycle without physically disconnecting and reconnecting power.

Light-switch dimmer functionality? I've been trying to use WLED for the control of a single white LED driven with PWM and a MOSFET. Ideally, I'd like two buttons, high and low. Touch the high button (with light off) and the light comes on at 100% brightness, hold the high button and it dims from 100% to 0% in about 3 seconds, depending on when you release the button. Touch the low button (with the light off) and the light comes on at 2% brightness, hold the high button and it increases from 2% to 100% depending on when you release the button. Short press (0.5s) either high or low when the LED is on, toggles it off. Hold either high/low (with light on) and the light will dim/brighten until released. Most dimmer I have work similarly and you have to turn it on full or to the last unknown setting before dimming it, but sometime I don't want 100% first thing in the dark morning. I have a lot of ESP based dimmers running Tasmota but couldn't figure out a way to provide this functionality. I think this might be possible with API commands but haven't figure it out. Using a ESP32 with Touch buttons seems to work well enough, no need for physical buttons. Maybe overkill to use WLED but I use it for all other LED projects. Thanks for the video.

What are you using for powering this Matrix? I've bought everything, but only powering with a DC 5V 3A or a USB Piggytail seems not enough from the specification. In you design you go with a DC IN Plug, but what kind of power supply are you using? Are you powering it down via WLED software?
@mybritishcomputerguy
@mybritishcomputerguy 29 күн бұрын
I'm using 5v 6.0amp power brick (kind of hard to find, i'll post a link to it when i can), it's powerful enough to power the matrix at about one 3rd of its maximum brightness. I didn't want to use one that was too powerful, as i wasn't planning on running the panel at full brightness. If you intend on running it at full brightness (which is don't recommend) you will need to rethink what you make the enclosure out of, plus also add ventilation and cooling.

I am not much smart about these things but I like when people play with things like these. As I watched DIY Perks channel before and he used to replace backlight on the TV with some really powerul LEDs. What do you think could it be possible to combine multiple of these matrix panels and use them as a backlight for the TV?

Do you need any heatsink plate on the back of led stripe? If yes, how could you join the sink and the stripe?
@mybritishcomputerguy
@mybritishcomputerguy 2 ай бұрын
That's a great question, if you plan on running these leds at full brightness then you will likely need ventilation and maybe a small fan, as it's made out of PLA it will withstand a fair amount of heat, but eventually will warp. I never plan on running these at the maximum power that they can draw. A heat sink is a good idea but that heat would still likely need to be vented.

I think good idea button 3 level brightness white & other button for RGB thing for bed side lamp 3D printer. Bit hard setup make 3 level brightness off > 1 > 2 > 3 > off > 1 > 2 > 3 like my bed side lamp. I got crappy bed side lamps with 3 level brightness don't have RGB effects.

i think yes if you use "switch" setting instead of button, but i am not sure. because to have 2 or 3 presses with a switch baybe is odd. BUT you can use a smart switch (wifi or zigbee) with which has INCHING setting (off automatically after it is turned on for a specified period), setted for example to go off after 0.5 or 1sec on, it will act like a push button, as magic! and you could do a scene (macro) for example in tuya/ewelink where you turn on/off/on/off etc in sequence, to act like double press, or even long press. and that scene if you have alexa/gHome can be seen there, and with voice you can activate it.

So they say it can draw 15amps running all white, what about stringing multiple boards together? Would we need an even bigger power supply?
@mybritishcomputerguy
@mybritishcomputerguy 2 ай бұрын
You would, always base your power supply calculations on 0.06mA per led if you are planning on running White on full brightness. If you're not planning on running full White on full brightness then you can get away without such a powerful power supply. Either way I typically always err on the side of caution and get a bigger power supply than what the total current draw would be.

Excellent video and really helpful, keep it up! I have a question. I'd like to use a push button to control some SK6812 for desk backlight. Thanks to this video I can easily use the button to also toggle the leds on/off, I am trying to decide whether to also add a toggle switch that handles power for both the leds and the board. Should I just use a single button and keep the board running 24/7?

I’ve been watching your KZbin videos and I’m really impressed with the quality and informativeness of your content. Since you’re an expert on LED technology, I have a question regarding a product I’m developing. I’m working on a design that features two 16x16 RGBW WS2812B matrices mounted in a 2" thick shadow box. These LEDs will serve as backlighting for the contents of the frame. I’m considering using something like a SP630E controller for its simplicity and the convenience of its remote. However, I’m concerned about running these matrices on a 5V 15A power supply. My worry is that if the controller allows full brightness, it might exceed the power supply’s capacity, as I would ideally need closer to 30 amps. I want to avoid using a bulky industrial power supply to keep the product looking clean and consistent with typical household items. Is there a controller you would recommend that offers easy remote operation and also allows me to preset a maximum brightness? This would help ensure that the system doesn’t draw more than 15 amps and maintains a clean, consumer-friendly appearance. I hope that makes sense. I’m looking for a solution that combines user-friendly control with a way to limit power consumption effectively. Thank you for your help! Best regards,

If you use an ESP32 or 8266 based controller running WLED, you can set the maximum current draw for the lights in the settings, an additional safety measure would be to install a fuse on the strip, so if for some reason someone accidentally changed the current draw the fuse would blow and protect your psu. Any controller using WLED should be able to do this. I hope this helps. Sorry for the delay in giving you an answer. Thanks for your support!

Did you figure it out yet? I imagine that you would make the effects you want as presets, then make a playlist of the presets. From there, may need to make a new transitions preset (as he does in this video) and use the API code box to make a code based list of your playlists. Also there’s a youtuber who specializes in led flame effects on here. I can’t remember his name but he’ll show up if you search.

You can do this, you can create a playlist of effects in WLED. I kind of cover this in my video that talks about animations on your led matrix. It's pretty straightforward. If I get a chance I will try and do a short How To video for everyone on it sometime soon. Thanks for your question.

Thanks, I wasn't previously aware of layers within WLED, but searched on that feature and now bob's my uncle. I have an art project I'd like to do using X,Y input from an accelerometer mapped onto an LED matrix. One layer would be kind of a base coat and the accelerometer coordinates would "paint" a different palette on top. Any thoughts about how to do that? Or a relevant forum I might take this question to? - Thanks again very helpful video.
