May I ask what type of metal the pin section is made of? I would like to do something similar to this, but (as a beginner) I'm not sure if my Tin solder will attach to certain new metals.
@marybulanova_jewelry4 күн бұрын
I am not quite sure, but I think it's some kind of steel. It's definitely not stainless steel.

Hello, do you use a mask when doing this? Are the fumes dangerous?
@marybulanova_jewelry18 күн бұрын
Hello, no, I don't use mask. Just opened window. My solder is lead free. That's why it's not so dangerous.

What do you Use to seal or proect the Tin from reacting with oxygen?
@marybulanova_jewelryАй бұрын
Nothing. I don't see the point. After patination and careful polishing, tin retains its shine for a long time. If it becomes dull or dark, it is enough to rub it with a rough cloth. And the shine will return.

How do you keep them from falling off? I clean, Flux. I can make the balls but they fall off.

The place where you put the balls must be hot. You have to warm it before placing the balls.

These are really cool! I was wondering what are you using to solder the pieces of metal? I have tried a few times but no luck with no lead . I tried a silver and copper solider wire, with butane and solder but still broke when I was filing after pickel in vintager and salt. I'm trying to learn . Thank you 😊

Thank you! I tapped the leaf with a rubber mallet. You can also stamp the streaks after soldering, not before it. but may be my copper sheet is just a little bit thicker than yours.

Thanks for the video!! Can I ask what temperature you keep your iron at? I am trying to find the sweet spot that keeps the metal melting smoothly without burning the tip of the iron. Also, how do you clean your peice after? I find I always have a sticky residue from the Flux that I'm not sure how to clean. Thanks in advance
@marybulanova.uniquehandmad75112 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment:). I am not sure about the temperature. My iron is 100 watt, that's all what I know about it. I clean my peaces with some shampoo or dishwashing detergent. Before I sometimes used ultrasinic cleaner, but it was cheap and broke down soon. But there is no great difference with shampoos. Pieces are not sticky if you wash them thoroughly with a tooth brush.
