No one ever did this song like Jerry Naylor, it's my favorite all time Oldie, I remember who I was in love with back then, my wife of 19 years, and it always takes me back to thinking of her and how much I loved her then and now. I miss the days of innocence and the love I had for this woman and my failure to recognize what I had then and it's hard to listen to this sometimes but it makes me remember her and every once in a while it brings me back and for just a few minutes she's back in my life even though she will never know the regrets I had for letting her go when it was necessary so she could be what she wanted to be, the phenomenal success she's been and the satisfaction that I loved her enough to let her go. Have you heard the song by Lady Antebellum "WHAT IF I NEVER GET OVER YOU?" What's that old expression BETTER TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST THEN TO NEVER LOVED BEFORE? I'm not so sure about that but this song always makes me wonder.

The real title of this track (which I wrote in 1968 - w/a few lyrics by Jimmy Cerezo R.I.P.) is actually called 'Gained For Free' / This track will be featured on Vol.2 of my Nancarrow-Gibson 50Yr. Anthology series - hopefully by early 2024 (Vol1. currently for sale on line via Music Diffusion) 'keep on rockin'

LYRICS: Baby cried the day the circus came to town 'cause she didn't want parades just passin' by her So she painted on a smile and took up with some clown While she danced without a net upon the wire I know a lot about 'er 'cause, you see Baby is an awful lot like me Don't cry out loud Just keep it inside, learn how to hide your feelings Fly high and proud And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all Baby saw that when they pulled that big top down They left behind her dreams among the litter The different kind of love she thought she'd found There was nothin' left but sawdust and some glitter But baby can't be broken 'cause you see She had the finest teacher-that was me-I told 'er Don't cry out loud Just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings Fly high and proud And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all Don't cry out loud Just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings Fly high and proud And if you should fall, remember you almost made it Don't cry out loud Just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings Fly high and proud And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all

Way back in 2005 when I got net connected and learned what Google could do. I enters the Deep Six looking for the Morning track, either album or sheet music. Back then Google didn't know what I was on about and so, no find. A while later, the above cover and some details were presented. Nice to hear those sounds again since 1974 when I came on the album in a second-hand record shop. That LP vanished a long time ago to a five finger discount friend.

I heard Melissa Manchester sing this live last night for the third time and she was fabulous! I hope you were listening from up there, Peter! She spoke very highly of you and she told me all about you and your friendship the two of you had together. Melissa made you proud, Peter! I can't wait to check out your albums and music and get to know you. I am so sorry that you're no longer here with us, but my favorite actor and Broadway performer from your home country of Australia, the very handsome and talented Hugh Jackman, my Aussie crush who portrayed you in The Boy From Oz, is doing a fabulous job of singing your songs outside of Broadway shows and picking up right where you left off! I know the two of you would become great friends if you were still here. I love you and miss you, Peter. You left us when I was 2 years old, but I am just getting started with your music. RIP Peter.

What it is to be able to write songs from the heart, he may have left home and created a world of his own, but clearly never forgot his grandfather or his father inside. I have never figured out why people like this do so much damage to themselves when they have such a clear picture of life inside them. Peter wrote some of the most iconic Australian songs ever our best being I still call Australia home, a song to tug at the heart of every Australian, when so many of them made the huge move to come here from afar and stay, i know, i am one of them, and yes, i do think of family back in the old country, i do miss them, and it gets stronger each passing year, but i do call Australia home in reality, its the place i choose, and i think it choose me?? I would encourage anyone to listen to many of Peter Allens songs and ponder on the words of same, they really mean something.
