A catch is not a catch until it is secured and removed from his glove voluntarily. The ground kept him from securing the ball. NO CATCH. This also demonstrates poor coaching and the coaching staff's lack of knowledge of the rules.

The idiots in the stands are what ruined the game. The fielder has to show the umpire control of the ball which he obviously did not do. Great call by the umpires.

A VERY HARD call as the fielder was at full speed... falling... and tumbling All in the same sequence... SO... there are many that will say that in this circumstance he MUST retain possession of the ball until after he hits the ground and stops moving (which he did not).... Others will say he ran three to four steps past the point of the actual catch and therefore had possession. Either way... a tough call!

This shows how it's possible for the umpire crew to make the absolutely right call but still screw it up by *how* they made the call (and when). No runners on, so PU's ONLY responsibility is to get down the line and make the fair/foul call followed by the Catch/No-Catch call after viewing the entire catch and fall, waiting for voluntary release. With the ball popping up in clear view, he should have immediately ruled loudly "No Catch! No! No! No!" (say "catch" only once, if at all, make sure it's not heard as "catch! -- catch! -- catch!") while giving a strong no-catch mechanic (safe mechanic) 2-3 times. It appears F7 was left with the belief that it was a catch (though he should have known better, was too busy basking in the glory to see the runner still rounding the bases). Had the no-catch been called properly, BR would likely have been held to a double or triple.

What an effort, my heart goes out to the kid but no question that is not a catch, it doesn't matter how far he stumbles he has to maintain control and have volunteer release if the ball. There no exchange no nothing, this is a drop, no catch. Correct call, the only thing terrible is some fans and coaches lack of knowing they do not know the rule. You could tell to that the umpire wanted to explain, but people would not let their emotions go...

I don't know. Looks to me like he took 2 or 3 strides after making the catch. I can go either way on this one.

The ball is on the ground. The ball has to survive the ground. (PS fast forward to 7:30 to get past all the non essential video)

That is ABSOLUTELY a catch...except for the part where the ball comes loose and he doesn't catch it. Please, this isn't difficult...he didn't catch the ball.
