Question for you; I have Win4Yaesu and my laptop is connected via a USB cable to the 991A. Love it works great. I did purchase a Toroid recommended by the author of the Win4Yaesu program. On my computer COM 7 is the enhanced port, and Com 6 is the non enhanced port, I am also running Log4OM and it uses a Omnirig port Com 20. FLRig wants to use my enhanced port, which I think prevents Win4Yaesu from using it at the same time, but I am not positive of that. What has your experience been with running DigiRIG, FLDIGI and Win4Yaesu?

Really funny, I am setting up one of these next week, 🤣 I have a 30 foot tower, and I had it up 2 years ago but the wind broke it in half, I took it to a metal shop and had the tube repaired, when I reassemble it I'll have to tune it, it should be fine, if I can get it close, it will be OK because I have a roller tee tuner so I can always dial it in, AI7VS 73s good video. 👍

I wonder if the SWR is the same on the LMR setup and the RG setup. The .1 difference in reading is probably because the 8U has more loss. That loss appears as a lower SWR. So, your radiated power off the antenna for the 8U is perhaps lower than you think? Not by much... Not enough to matter. But interesting to consider.

Hello, LU2AW from Buenos Aires, Argentina here. I have a CP610, and after watching all your videos, I can confirm the same issues with mine. I installed the 610 about a year ago, and at first, everything went smoothly. SWR showed as expected, well in line with the curves in the "manual." The best resonance was around 28.4 and 50.5 MHz. After a strong storm (I live in a building, the antenna is 60 meters above street level and very exposed), it bent at the base point to one side (not much, about 10/15 degrees), and SWR intermittently changed from 1.5 or so to 3.5:1. So I disassembled the antenna, straightened the lower pipe, reassembled, and erected it again. Now the resonance points are the same as with your antenna; the curve is the same. The best SWR on 6 meters is below the ham band, and on 10 meters, it's not as low as before. I'm thinking of bringing the antenna down again and opening the radial coil and the phasing coil to see what the hell is wrong. Maybe there is also some sort of impedance matching network in the feed point pipe. If possible, let me know your email so I can update you on my progress and discuss possible solutions. Mine is [email protected]. I think this is a great antenna as long as it worked.

Very Good video. I often wonder at times if my antenna isn't good, or whether I have too much local noise. Apparently it's working normally! So it was nice to see someone demonstrate the same radio with a similar experience. You made no mention of the RF gain knob, which I use a LOT. DNR does normally work VERY well for distant but stable reception, as you demonstrated, but I was listening to someone in Maine talk with someone in Florida. (I'm in Va.) They guy in Maine had 25w with a low antenna. Amazing... The ionosphere was distorting the signal and with DNR turned on, portions of the conversation kept faded out. I turned the DNR off and turned down the RF gain knob to halfway, while turning up the AF gain (volume). It wasn't as quiet as with DNR turned on, but I found that as you reduce the RF gain and increase the volume, you get their voices much better with LESS noise, and they don't distort when the ionosphere changes. So I actually use both options to clear up noise. I'm guessing of you already have a good antenna, the amp gain works against you by just boosting the noise? I'm using the DX commander Classic which is puling in a lot of conversations between 7 and 7.2Mhz in he evening from all over the country. Not to side track, but they say the more ground radials the better. Oddly I see very little difference whether I have just 1 ground radial or 30 connected. Maybe it makes a difference for transmission? Maybe my grounding system is acting like a radial? Since I just have a technician license I have no way to validate how well I can transmit. I decided to just run (4) #14 wire radials N,S, E and W. and I'm pulling in a lot of distant conversations in the evening. But thank you for the video. I've learned a heck of a LOT from ALL of your video's!

Not had good experiences with this antenna , I no the bands are a bit up and down a to the moment but at 20ft I couldn't hear anything but a Hash massive noise floor ,I did try a few things but for the cost it's not good ,my well brook loop was pulling things on 20mtrs that this antenna wasn't getting or was under the noise.prob works ok if u live on top of a hill or something.but not for my garden it's packed away I gave up on the thing for now.

Dummy load on a stick with cooling fins added nice touch. Actually a traveling wave antenna but a poor example since the radiation element is fairly small unlike its distant cousin the mighty 1200 foot rombic who also use a termination resistor although the good ones had a tune network. Also in the family are receiving beverages coming in at 800 feet and vee beems and of course the terminated folded dipole another dummy load.
