Hi Chris! Congratulations on surpassing 100 subscribers! I had a few KTEL albums when I was a kid. As you said, the best way to get a good bang for your buck! Bat Out Of Hell, American Fool, Shout At The Devil! I have all of these including that Whitesnake! Kind Of Blue was my introduction to Jazz back in the 90s. It deserves all the accolades it receives. It's essential. ✌

Thank you! I really enjoy making these little videos and hopefully adding something to the vinyl community. I think a lot of us were introduced to Jazz, thanks to Miles. You're absolutely right. It definitely deserves its place in history.

I had the K-Tel "Music Machine" on 8-track as a kid. It was one of the first K-Tels I had. I was late on "Bat Out Of Hell" and didn't really hear it until the early 90's. That Motely Crue was pretty much my introduction to 80's metal, too. I remember seeing "Looks That Kill" on Friday Night Videos and it was the loudest video I'd seen at that point. (Yes, I could see the loudness!) "Rumours" seems to be THE album that has been passed down to the new generation, even overshadowing The Beatles.
@LateNightDeadWax6 ай бұрын
K-Tel was the beginning! I forgot about the video for "Looks That Kill". That whole thing (Music, Videos and image) made me a little metal head teenager. I couldn't believe that "Rumours" was on the top selling records of 2023. Although I totally believe it to be a great album.
@Foul_Quince6 ай бұрын
As a reformed 13 year old, I can sympathize. I got my first job as a greyhound walker at 13, but in reality, I was just a greyhound anchor because if they saw anything they wanted to chase, off they'd go, dragging me along behind them. I was listening to T Rex, David Bowie's Heroes. Dirty Deeds by ACDC, and ABBA in when I was 13 - 14 was the year that determined, in a lot of ways, what I would listen to go forward. Which still included a lot of T Rex abd ABBA!
@LateNightDeadWax6 ай бұрын
Wow, now that's a first job! It is funny how much influential music from that age stays with us. On an embarrassing note, I only discovered T-rex in the last year.... now I can't get enough.

A long, boring story about Colin Hay. Men At Work here in Australia were pretty much a third tier band back in the 80's. One night, I was at a music festival and Colin Hay appearing solo was the closing act for one of the nights, so the tent was really full - maybe 10,000 people in it. So he plugs through his set and he is *mesmerizing* - he had that whole tent, who were there for either MAW nostalgia or they were drunks who just didn't want to go back to the camp site just yet. He only played 1 MAW song - Overkill. At the end, he got shouted back for an encore, so out he comes, sings a couple of extra songs, people are hooked still and then he launches into Down Under . Well, the cultists have their nostalgia moment, the drunks who are even drunker by now, they go and he stretched it out, pulling verses out of the air, for 10 minutes. And there must have been some jounros or radio folks there, because suddenly MAW were back on the national music agenda - and not ironically - getting taken seriously. And they are pretty much still there today. It's like he taught Australia to take one of their most successful bands seriously.
