Elvis was being Elvis, in all his movies, he was the star, he was the reason for the movie. The reason for any movie Elvis was in, was to see and hear him sing. As all his records had already been recorded, prior to a movie being made, all he needed to do was play/act his scene's, and pretend to sing along to his recording's, the songs presented in the movie. He was under contract with his manager and the movie company to do these movie parts, which also mean't he had to record an album prior to making the movie. There was a lot of behind the scenes stuff, propaganda, if you will, with Elvis during these times to fulfilling the movie contracts. Quite often he didn't really want to be there, plus Elvis would always have what he wanted, so the movie company had to fullfill Elvis's personal wants and requirements, as part of the contracts with the movie companies, it had to be, and his manager had to see to it that it was included in any contract with Elvis, that his Memphis Mafia friends, body guards, mates were on these tours with him, so they were around him during his free times off set. Also all of them got small background acting parts as part of Elvis's contracts. Elvis was a stubborn, man, What Elvis wanted, Elvis got. As Danny and Billy Smith have both said, if Elvis wanted, or said something, they had to make it happen, if Elvis said "Now", he meant now, if he said "Jump" that meant Jump. If Elvis said how high, you jumped as high as he wanted. He wouldn't tolerate sloppiness, slagging off, laziness, and had no time for time wasting. Now means Now. Same was from Elvis's manager, Tom, he also wanted things done Now, not later, if he had to wait to negotiate, he got rid of that person or company, and replaced them immediately, and without hesitation. Plenty of fish in the sea was the Col Tom's motto. Elvis was the star, and Star treatment is what Elvis got everytime, no matter what. Their agreement with one another was one of mutual understanding, respect, and love. Even though a lot of people think they had their differences, their understanding of what each other were to one another, was business at the highest level. This was, right from the very first time they set eyes on each other. Without Tom Parker, Elvis would have been nothing. Tom made Elvis become the star he became. Nothing more, or less than that was their agreement. Elvis stuck to his side of the agreement, Tom stuck to his side of the agreement. There has never been an agreement like theirs was, anytime in history ever. Elvis was the BOSS ! Tom received exactly enough money from his side of the agreement to cover all the costs, which included all merchandising, photos, memorabilia, hotel and motel accommodation, plane flights, chaffure driven limousines, rehersal places, before concert tours, hire of all musicians, and their expenses, and not to mention all their wages and fees, meals, accomadation, hire, new clothing for on stage use, all came out of Tom Parker's half of the expenses. People say that Tom was a slave driver, it was Elvis who set the rules and boundaries. He had faith in Tom to takecare of all details. Tom did, so it did become a 50/50 agreement finacially. Back to the movie making, Elvis probably had to spend some time with each actor and actresses who played opposite him during the making of movies. Because Elvis was a huge music sensation, he was hugely popular with the opposite female actor's, and had to have parts with all of them at some stage during the making of movies. All these women were young acresses wanting to have a career as movie stars, in the hope of getting somewhere with their careers. Playing opposite Elvis Presley was an opportunity of a life time to be with someone famous. They might have been huge Elvis fans, in the real world. So for them, it was an opportunity to be next to Elvis Presley, get his autograph, photo or 2 taken with him, in whatever pose they might be able to manipulate, for a intimate photo with Elvis. Something to remember as a keeps sake for the remainder of their live's. Remember Elvis Presley was a huge star already, they weren't, and for Elvis, they were just young naive girls that really didn't matter much to him. Yes, they were girls, but he wasn't too phased by girls, he had them sceam at him everyday, nothing special about that, so he only saw them as such. Ann Margret was nothing special to Elvis, she was another girl like the others who was trying to break into acting, and hoping to make the grade as an actress. She was also infatuated with being in movie scenes with the talented big star Elvis Presley. Again, she was just another unknown actress been given a part opposite 'The King Of Rock 'n' Roll' Elvis Presley. Elvis always gave his signature smile and look with all photos of him with other people, male or female, young and old, remember he played opposite a leading well known actress where he was to pursue an affair opposite Shirly Jones, and she later went on to star in the TV series, 'The Addams Family'. She was old enought to be Elvis's mother, but he acted his part with her, as his lover, protecting her from Walter Mathua's character as the night Club owner of the 'King Creol'. This movie is one of Elvis's early movie roles, set back in the 50s, where he is a school boy, who has a casual part time job as a Bus Boy, who sweeps and mops floors, and wipes tables down to help bring in extra money for his father and sister. It probably helps put food on the table, pays for electricity, gas, rent, school fees, clothing in a Louisiana French style quarter of New Orleans. Shirley only got small parts in movies with big time actors. Elvis at this time, was a star, a Rock star, already bigger than Shirley was. Her break came later, probably thanks to Elvis. Ann Margret was a small time actress. Same thing with Ursula Andress when in the movie, Elvis was doing a pool side job looking after the pool, and sang a few songs in the night club at night. Again, Ursula may have stared opposite Sean Connery in one of the Bond movies, but again, Elvis was a big Rock Star, and she got to act opposite him. In this movie, her father, or uncle, owned and ran the hotel complex. So having Elvis as the star of these movies, was really about Elvis Presley singing (lipsyncing) on the big screen, so people experienced a sense of having Elvis sing to them. Especially as he was never going to travel the world performing live, so this was just as good. (Near enough) Plus after the movie, unless they had already bought the record, they can put it on, and listen to Elvis singing to them. Too much speculation about whether Elvis Presley went with this one, or that one, or did they get in the sack and romp around together, most of it is media hype. I personally would believe too much about whether they did or didn't, it is only Ann Margret's story, or tell all, or would like for readers to believe they got up to hanky panky, or not, is anybodies guess. Roger Smith isn't around to hear about it, and guess what, either is Elvis Presley, he can't verify it, whether it is true or not, no fisticuffs is going to take place between (77 Sunset Strip) star Roger Smith, or 'That's Alright Moma'. But if she is still alive, and she wants to embellish her writing's, she stands to make a heap of money from sales, even though it may not be true. .Elvis can't say one way or the other if anything took place between them or not. Personally I don't think anything took place between them, she was a young woman who wanted to say she spent intimate time with Elvis Presley. Maybe when they had to sing and dance together, and speak a few lines in scenes together, they may have had to spend time together going through their lines. Ann Margret is a dreamer, like all the women who played opposite Elvis, he would have had to dismiss his body guards, and take a chance and risk of something going horribly wrong, I do not think Elvis, or his Memphis Mafia team, would have allowed such risks to take place. Elvis only truly loved one woman, all the other's were time wasters, he may have used them up till he was with his love. That is more the truth.
