Who's seal this gate
@historicalsitesinisrael
@historicalsitesinisrael 3 күн бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late response - The gate was sealed by Saleh Edin after conquering Jerusalem in 1187. At the beginning of the 16th century, the Ottoman’s sultan Suleiman I, re-built the wall of Jerusalem, and as part of the construction, the ancient gate structure was incorporated, while being sealed with the same type of stones used for building the wall.

There are some opinions that the Hasmonean extension was made to include the area where the Hasmoneans had removed the Acra built by Antiochus, if this is true stones from the Acra may have been used in the construction of the Hasmonean portion of the wall of the Temple enclosure.

2:10 This is the three doors entrance to the Royal Basilica where Jesus taught every day. Later Cathedrals are made in remembrance of this building. There are seven arches under the staircase. The three doors entrance also had three arches.

Hi, there were quite few water cisterns in Gamla, both inside the wall and outside and they can be still seen today. There were cultivated areas on the hill across Gamla brook, so that the farmers left to work there at the beginning of the week and returned at the end. There will be a dedicated video on the income source of Gamla's residents uploaded later this year.

Is this legitimately David's son's actual tomb where his body rested or n😢
@historicalsitesinisrael
@historicalsitesinisrael 4 ай бұрын
Hi, I address this question starting at the 9th minute of the video based on Professor Gabriel Barkay’s article on the subject: Since the building is dated to the first half of the first century - The special shape of the structure leads to identifying it as a burial place of a key figure from the first century. Also, the special location and the proximity to the Temple Mount makes it necessary to assume that those buried here had a noble and special status. After the discovery of Herod’s tomb in Herodion, the closest equivalent to Herod’s mausoleum is Absalom’s tombstone in Jerusalem, suitable for a royal burial. Marcus Julius Agrippa is Agrippa the 1st, king of Judah, born in 10/11 BC. Agrippa was the son of Aristobulus, son of Miriam the Hasmonean & Herod, and his wife Berenice. He ascended to the throne in the year 34 and in 41 he overtook the rule over all of Israel. He died 2 or 3 years later, at the age of 54. At the end of his days, Agrippa saw himself primarily as the king of Judah with Jerusalem as its capital. The priestly attribution of Agrippa as a grandson of the Hasmonean family on his grandmother’s side, gave him many advantages among the Jews. Jerusalem and the temple were important to him, and they occupied a central place in his being. I recommend you watch that part of the video yet the conclusion is that Agrippa was berried here.

Was the Israel pool used to wash sacrificial stock prior to being led into the Temple? Or was it Bethesda's or both? Since Struthion was for consumption and/or ritual baths?
@historicalsitesinisrael
@historicalsitesinisrael 4 ай бұрын
Hi, Even though all were active during the 2nd temple period, it is probably that the pool of Israel and Bethesda's pool didn't operate at the same time. All were probably used for consumption and for supporting services at the temple. Ritual bath were mostly located close to the temple entrances, on the south and west sides of the temple mount.
