I learned about courage from this very speech. Thank you, Dr. West. A first gen college student, I listened to this countless times before writing papers in undergrad. It got me through grad school and I got my MBA. I finally graduated from law school with honors, passing the bar exam before graduating. The line “courage enables the other virtues” is what had the most impact. I didn’t quit, I held onto courage.

His book was a touch of genius. I've read a thousand books, at least. I reference this book often. If you want to understand the modern mess in our "elite" universities this is the book to go to. Bloom was a Progressive, urban, urbane, gay, charming Mid-western boy, with an intellect that encompassed millennia. The fact that only 27 people watched this clip affirms the cultural and intellectual decay he prophesized. I think it's terminal.

Did I just spent 10 minutes of my time listening to someone using extremely many words (and hand gestures), without saying anything, but that he was thankful for his own education? Hope his book was better. Otherwise a leaflet would suffice. Feel kind of sorry for his former students. Try not to fall asleep here.

He is a lot better than Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson is a narcissist who loves to hear himself talk. He also bends and contours his beliefs to the moment or person at issue.
