How do you feel about this product now that youve had it for awhile? Is the littke bit of wiggle still a concern? Interested in purchasing as theyre much cheaper than OEM
@drdbrowndc10 ай бұрын
It's been 6 months and so far no problems. It's very solid, I've carried many items on the rack with no issues. The only thing to mention is the slight wind noise at high speed, like over 70 mph but I guess that is to be expected. There are some open areas on the underside that could be covered with tape to reduce the slight noise I imagine but I have so much else more important to do I haven't looked into that. I also bought this rack because of the super high price of others and have not been disappointed. It is a quality build. David

Thanks for taking the time to make a video. I wanted to share so that others know too that the rails you have are considered flush rails. The part that you replaced just needs to be pulled down a little so that it grips the underside of the lip on the rail. Not sure what the implication of using the longer part is. The long flat plastic pieces that you inserted before attaching the towers to the cross can be pulled flush to the towers to cut down on wind noise. If you look VERY closely, you can see a scale on them. It might be helpful for people to use them to ensure both sides are evenly spaced. You could also cut what you don't need and place that excess on the section outboard of the towers. Lots of tedious assembly and disassembly for that though. The cross bars are extremely beefy much like a more expensive Yakima or Thule type. My main complaints are that the towers are made of plastic, and the two screws holding down the cross bars are pretty small. It's higher quality plastic though.

Great follow through and very helpful suggestions. I have noticed wind noise at about 70 mph so I'll look into blocking the open channels. Thanks so much. David

6:18 you can get one of these tuners... 6:49 tuner in the way. Get rid of it. Lateron let us try the tuner again. We aint gonna say what is on the display of the tuner. But, you can get one of these tuners. Not that they do much, but they are fun to watch at. Or in other words: waste of money.
@bertjesklotepino Жыл бұрын
i hope you did put a link in the description to this wonderful piece of worthless equipment that you clearly did not use to determine the sound Nice to show it though. A tuner. Nice stuff. My ear can do the same.
@drdbrowndc Жыл бұрын
@@bertjesklotepino I completely agree, the ear is the best, if you have a good sense of tone. I'm not sure what you are driving at because the little tuner did help. It's just one more tool to use to verify your ear tuning. The problem with a chime bar is there are so many overtones that confuse both the ear and the device. They do not produce a clear, single tone. Also if you are not careful muting the other bars they will sympathetically vibrate and complicate matters further.
@bertjesklotepino Жыл бұрын
i am driving at the fact that you did it by ear. The tuner may have helped you somewhat, but you clearly are trained to tune by ear. Plus, to me it did not seem that the tuner device actually did anything. We as viewers of the video were not able to determine what was shown on the device. But in my opinion that is a good thing, because it is clear that you do not need it. And, i do not think it really works. We already solved the problem of tuning many years ago. Why use new technology if the old technology works perfect. The ear, perhaps a fork. This new mumbo jumbo, it may give an indication, but it aint nowhere near accurate. Its crap. If i may be honest. And, you have shown it to be crap, which i expected. Otherwise you would have spend a bit more time on showing the read out on the screen, etc etc. But you just discard of the device when you think you have had enough of it. Therefor i am pretty certain that you yourself think it is crap. Sure, it may help, but why invent the wheel twice. Your ears did the job perfectly. @@drdbrowndc

a saying i keep in my mind goes something like this (btw i am dutch, might explain the strange english)..... Anyways, the saying is this: Computers were invented to solve problems which did not exist before people invented computers. And the same thing is true here. A professional does not need gadgets like these. Mozart did not have gadgets like these. And you have shown that it is junk. Sorry to be making such a fuss about it, but i just think that it would be better if people accept junk is junk. We already have too much junk and no place to store it. @@drdbrowndc

1949 was a big year for RCA Victor with its' introduction of the 45 RPM changers, and many radios designed especially for these 45 changers. Even other radio corporations included an RCA Jack for the specific use of the changers. They are popular today, just as they were popular with the public in 1949 when the company initially introduced them.

hello, David Brown. I have one of these exactly as shown in your video. It works and sounds wonderful except for one little problem. The arm stops and recycles about 10 seconds before the end of the song. In other words the tone arm does not move all the way across the record, only about 98%. It never reaches the run out grooves. I know the adjustment on the rp-190 , but not on this rp 168. Can you help me? What i need is a screen shot from your 6 part repair videos with a red arrow pointing to the adjustment I need to turn. Everything else about the player is perfect, played 100's of records (but never heard the last 10 seconds or so on any of them, except on some very short songs) :(...

Niamh H In my case there was no change when I pressed on the case around the screen and yet the cause turned out to be the screen's electronics and NOT the cable. I know this because I disassembled the screen and was able to reproduce the problem by pressing on the top edge of the screen AWAY FROM THE CABLE CONNECTOR. I believe the sturdy aluminum screen holder prevented distortion of the screen. I suggest you disassemble the screen and see if you can locate where the disconnection is located. Your cause might (hopefully) be the cable because they are cheap. Good luck removing the glue. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3mxpaGsr8uGsLs

FIXED MACBOOK PRO, hi there, i know this is an old video, came across it when researching my problem,anway thought i would help you and anyone else out, my macbook pro did the same thing but when i put held the screen back on the left side it fixed it temporary. It has been getting worse and worse, now i am sure you have it fixed already, but just in-case it isn't and it is stuck in a box somewhere, then here is the fix, apple told me i need a new screen, on the phone they tried getting me to reinstall it and reset pram ect, for them to repair expensive, for me to repair worth while, anyway all i needed was a new lvds cable, you might have a different problem and need the LCD screen replacing, but i would just swap out the lvds cable and see if that works first, seen as that is the cheapest part, and probably the most likely part to break.

question what do the 2 adjustments do
@drdbrowndc10 жыл бұрын
The star wheel adjustment against the Director Lever adjusts the timing of the separator knives to the shelves which control the dropping of the record. Nudging the tone arm into the correct landing spot is self explanatory. There are two other adjustment screws that are accessible through the two small holes on top of the unit. One adjusts the tone arm height and the other is a fine adjustment for tone arm landing.
@johnm89310 жыл бұрын
very interesting....do you repair these...i have one that needs help ...
Mitch, I can't reply to a "linked comment". Anyway, the fix was to replace the screen. The trace that was broken was in the circuit board adjacent to the connector. Apple does a good job of stabilizing the connector so I could not wiggle it while it was assembled. If you have ever taken these screens off you will find that unlike most PCs the screen connector is not accessible without removing the screen protector so it is a BPITA. After I did that the connector was visible and all I had to do is press on the circuit board and the problem cleared up. There is no fixing a broken trace, the screen must be replaced. Luckily new screens are not too expensive. $100 Simply heat the screen edges with a heat gun and remove the protector. Pry it up with a stiff razor blade Use several old credit cards or guitar picks to hold it from re-sticking.

Hello, I tried a new Digitizer, and still no response to touch. Any ideas on what else could fix it? I think it was Water Damage that caused this iTouch to lose it's touch response.
@drdbrowndc10 жыл бұрын
Dropped in the water? First thing is DO NOT TURN IT ON TO SEE IF IT WORKS. Chances are it will fail with a short. Open it up and disconnect the battery. Completely disassemble and scrub the board with 90% alcohol and Kimwipes. Put a hair blower on low heat and blow it dry for an hour. Scrub the connectors clean of any corrosion. That's the best advice I can give you. DB
@MasterSpade10 жыл бұрын
David Brown No, I didn't drop it in water. I'm not even sure if it's water damage tbh, but it stopped responding when I picked it up with wet hands. So it wasn't even that much water, but what was on my hands. This happened about a month ago now. If it did indeed get water damage from just THAT, then apple products SUCK!! I searched the internet for fixes to a 3rd gen. iTouch 64gb that stopped responding to touch, and half the "Fixes" were the Digitizer. Maybe the digitizer I received wasn't good? It only cost $11, and is supposedly new.

what happened is because it is a laptop and the lid of it is constantly opening and colsing it werars out the ribbon cable that the picture goest to the screenthrough
@drdbrowndc11 жыл бұрын
I suppose so. The cable could be tugged and twisted when you open the screen? Seems a little iffy to me because it is such an obvious problem area that the Apple techs would have not allowed that to occur. In my case even tapping on the screen where the connector was did not demonstrate any change which is one of the reasons I thought at first it was a MB video chip failure (common in this model). Pulling on the video cable didn't cause flicker either. But after I removed the glass screen protector the broken trace became obvious by simply pressing on the circuit board along the bottom of the screen. Broken trace.

Could you please let me know how you fixed it in a basic way? (how did you find the defective trace, how did you fix it?) I have the same problem now after cleaning the screen of Macbook Air, thanks a ton!
@drdbrowndc11 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. The broken trace was located below the screen connector on the screen itself, not the cable. So opening and closing the screen did not cause this defect. The laptop had been dropped. I thought it was a bad video chip and so replaced the MB and to my dismay found the same issue. To get at the screen connector you must remove the glass cover, that is why I resisted tear-down to that point. BPITA. The MB suppler was very gracious and took the MB back without a re-stocking charge. I simply replaced my screen. Next time (if there is one) I will remove the screen cover and more closely inspect the traces.
@drdbrowndc11 жыл бұрын
I have determined the problem to be the screen itself. There was a defective trace near the connector. Of course Apple makes it difficult to get to test the connector region because the plastic screen cover needs to be removed first. (Hint: Use a heat gun to soften the glue!!! Works great.) I will leave this video up for a while because there is a paucity of good video diagnostics on the web.
