The appearance of the Watcher was the first indication that the Marvel Universe was a place with an extremely long history and very superior hierarchy. The most powerful aliens were omnipotent and omniscient. The Watcher's solo series fortified his pre-eminence and later importance in the connecting Marvel Universe. Galactus as well as the Watcher, showed that the Marvel Universe was a cold and forbidding place, with nobody who was either powerful enough or had the moral authority to protect it from the most awesome entities. Galactus it seemed could do what he liked. However, his seeming supremacy of the cosmos, was a threat to the Watcher, and he had to break his oath so that he could save Earth and thereby protect himself and his kind.

Excellent video! I really like how by being variations on a theme, the Pikaclones give pikachu a taxonomic family of close relatives like you would see in real world animals. Pokemon need to be distinct and memorable so I can understand why they don't usually make species that arent in the same evolution line look super similar to each other, but I enjoy it when it does happen.

I like how the designs of early game commons ease you into this world of RPG monsters. They're not excessively supernatural or strange looking creatures, just some woodland animals. They're also fun because if you are really determined, by late game you can take down an ancient mythical dragon with a gopher you befriended in your backyard. I can also understand why many of them are dark type because the dark early game commons aren't dark type monsters in the "born of darkness" or "dark magic" way, they're either nocturnal or steal food sometimes, things that animals, especially those that live near human settlements, are often known to do!

My ranking for the regional bugs is: 1: Leavanny (I love grass types, and bug is actually decent in Unova, unlike grass) 2: Vikavolt (easily the highest coolness factor) 3: Vivillon (better Butterfree, I adore the different patterns) 4: Scolipede (very useful, although it can be tempting to make it a boring Baton Passer in a playthrough, especially a Nuzlocke) 5: Ariados (very cool looking, Spinarak is cute as hell, kinda okay in a playthrough I guess?) 6: Dustox (surprisingly bulky, great into Brawly, Wurmple is cute as hell) 7: Orbeetle (cool typing, odd design, useful) 8: Beautifly (useful into Brawly, falls off terribly hard, Wurmple is cute, objectively more interesting design than Butterfree) 9: Butterfree (almost interchangeable with Beautifly for me, cuter, but less interesting, Wurmple > Caterpie) 10: Beedrill (incredible Mega, Weedle is cute as hell, Kakuna looks actually super intimidating, but the moves are absolutely terrible, using it feels like a chore, cool design otherwise) 11: Lokix (never really used one, quite late, but quite strong, don't care for the design) 12: Kricketune (too rare to make it iconic enough, cool design that gets too little use in how it is played) 13: Spidops (not great, always lags behind in levels for some reason, ugly as hell, Tarountula alone would be higher) 14: Ledian (absolute dogwater, and the design is surprisingly dull)

I love the early game bugs, even if they are quite bad, especially in the early gens. I'd love if they gave the early stages of them that are incredibly lacking in moves a few more moves to make them a bit less shit, like, I wanna do a crappy run with just the baby bugs, and have them all learn at least some moves and contribute to the team, not just work with the gen 2, 5, 7 and 9 ones
@raventreye2326
@raventreye2326 3 ай бұрын
Giving them more moves would be very cool. I think the miniature moveset is part of their design, to give you a simple Pokemon to teach you evolution, but the fact that 95% of players will evolve them into their second and third forms means that the additional moves won't affect the purpose they serve

@@melindamuller4466 For 2, 7, and 9, you can find one of the bugs from the other regions that do fit the pattern, and the new bug from that generation is just there to have a new bug type. You could almost split the Regional Bugs into two categories, Caterpie-likes and Ledyba-likes, based on their movesets, and every gen that introduces a Ledyba-like has a Caterpie-like. Except Gen 5, which doesn't give you a bug type until after Gym 2 in the original Black/White. They were trying to do something specific with those games, and it worked interestingly. They're almost worth their own video, and somebody probably has made one

One could argue that Wooloo and Nickit are just as much the early type common of gen 8 as Skwovet, being found on route 1and evolving at level 24 and level 18 respectively. I'd argue that the early game 'rodents' are all the early game normal types that are, or can be mistaken for, rodents, so Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon, Bidoof, Patrat, Bunnelby, Alolan Rattata and Yungoos, and then Skwovet. Gen 9 is odd, in many ways (as the regional bird is super late too, for example) and I'd argue that Tandemaus could be considered the early game rodent. I'd consider the 'early game farm animal' a separate category, not as common, being Lilipup, Wooloo and Lechonk. If they appeared earlier, I'd count the many normal type cats to that category too (Meowth, Skitty and Glameow), but they don't. I'd also consider the sometimes appearing 'early game grunts dark type', aka. Poochyena, Purrloin and Nickit a separate category.
@raventreye2326
@raventreye2326 3 ай бұрын
All very good points! I was looking at appearance rate as well, which is why I have Poochyena but not Wooloo. I did almost include Nickit thought, to go along with Poochyena and Purrloin. I didn't even think about Tandemaus thought, that's a good one. And you're definitely right about most of them being rodent-like, I just also enjoy animal classifications so I'm a little nitpicky about it lol
