Wow I don’t think I’d have the skiff stowed quite like that. I had one washed clean off once..

Respect! Absolute stunning! Thanks for the raw footage , no stupid music, just the wind and the waves .(And what waves they where)

What is the benefit of a partly furled jib being set rather than a reefed mainsail? I would have thought that the main would have reduced roll and kept the canter of force lower and closer to the center of the boat and reduce the chance of pitch poling. Of course you know your stuff, this is not a criticism, I am just posing the question in order to learn. Thanks

I would love to be there. For maybe 20 minutes. Too seasick-making and cold and uncomfortable for more than that. I’ll just enjoy it vicariously from my comfy chair. But good for you mate!

Can a catamaran withstand those condition as good as a monohull does?
@ronkirk5099 Жыл бұрын
Most of the time I was sailing the southern ocean in my Chatham 33', steel, cutter it was cold and overcast, and of course, the wind and seas so it was nice to have a pilothouse to keep me out of the weather and a bullet proof windvane (Sailomat) for steering. It allowed me to spend very little time on deck. I also used mostly just a poled out staysail or if the wind let up a little, I'd unfurled some jib. It was an awesome sailing challenge especially since I was singlehanded and had no long range communication equipment. I didn't see any other boats during the passage from Saldana, S. Africa to Tonga until I was north of New Zealand.

Thanks, nice to hear Sailomat is bulletproof, I got a year ago 1975 Schelinkryssare with Sailomat 601, learning to use it, can you perhaps recommend some books or videos of Sailomat 601, thank you Esko, Finland, sy Evelina

Tremendous Passage my friend! Congrats for that!! I have two questions: 1. Sailboat? and the Second What are you using the Spy Pole for and how do you determine the side of the boat? thanks!!

Must have been like having an anchor out with all that stuff growing on the side of your boat.

A boat 1/2 as long as another (of same construction) is 3x stronger. Small well constructed boats <20’ are surprisingly good in these conditions.

Un post de carma interior si un sistem automat radio de "om la apa"care sa coboare velele instantaneu coborarea carmelor ar fi ideal. Sa stati co toții impreuna înauntru. Cu multă stima, Petru Răzvan. PS. Mai bine incercați mari mai calme data viitoare!

That is one hell of a wet heavy boat. Quire mild conditions. The worst way to do this, but still a good experience.
