Apologies for a very basic question - I am totally new to oil. Which is the cold wax? It's stunning work :)
@HeartstoneArt6 күн бұрын
The cold wax is a medium that’s mixed into the oil paints. Thanks so much!

Love this, but it doesn't explain the process. Where does the wax come into it?
@HeartstoneArtАй бұрын
The wax is mixed into the paint to allow it to be spread and mixed the way it is. Oil paint without the cold wax doesn’t behave the same way.

Can someone explain me - why not do it directly on the paper? Thank you
@HeartstoneArtАй бұрын
The results directly on paper would be very different. There’s an element of letting go of control when you monoprint that you are not able to do when you paint directly. Also, it’s fun.

Do you recommend the big square plate? Do you mind that it is not in symmetry on the paper? I ask because, I really prefer square shapes but worry about finding papers for the big square

That is spectacular!!! I can’t believe you did that all without a brush. And in those spectacular sweeping layers. Did you have an idea of what you were aiming for? Or did the paint just show you what it wanted to be? That stormy wild sky in particular 😱

Cath your proportions seem to be roughly 1/4 for land 3/4 for above horizon or sky. I’ve got to do a very large painting in CWM and Oil on a 48”x48” board. And…. I have to do it flat. I have no walls I can do it on and I don’t think an easel will be secure enough. So I will have to move around it and move it around. I’ll stand it up now and then to look at it. Any tips?
@HeartstoneArt4 ай бұрын
That’s a tough one! I’ve used a French cleat for larger work before, but you’d need a wall for that. If you have to work flat, use some of the non slip stuff you put under carpet to stop it moving around when you don’t want it too. And good luck!

Thanks! I layer quickly. I’m using very thin layers of paint so they dry fast enough that by the time the next layer is ready to print, I don’t need to wait.
