The second wave of game show hosts (those that came on the scene between 1969 to 1991) have just gotten smaller. May Chuck Woolery Travel In Peace. Now, just Pat Sajak and Dave Ruprect left from that second wave. I do not count Bob Eubanks, as he came in at the tail end of the first wave. And with Peter Marshall's passing earlier this year, that first wave (when game shows started in black and white) have gotten smaller, with only Eubanks, Wink Martindale and, to a lesser extent, Johnny Gilbert (who I count amoung the first wave of game show announcers) left.

I like trivia a lot.I wouldn't go on it because its in L.A.,Besides,it's not really safe walking around with $10,000,let alone $2,000,000 or even $4,000,000.

I think that's a crazy rule about a team losing everything if they get a question wrong. Are the questions random on both Greed and Super Greed?

What would you do if you got $10,000 on a terminator?How about if you won or split over $2,maybe even $4 million dollars?
@hiltonlive32grnrngr19 күн бұрын
Actually, Avie (if by any chance you're reading this) I think Ric knew what he was doing using the freebie on that $200,000 about popular novel authors. It was one of those survey questions that are unfairly hard to get right. So with the freebie it would've at least been best 4 out of 5 to maximize the odds of successfully clearing the question.

David's Terminator loss pisses me off! He gave the right answer so they should've just given him the win. That is such a dumb rule. It even sounded like Chuck was done reading the question.

There's nothing wrong with stopping at $100,000 if you, as the captain, don't like the category. You're playing a game for money. It's better to win $20,000 than be terminated with $0 or leave with $0. It's a mechanic of the game for a reason. If I get a category I don't like and know I won't be good at, I'll happily take the ball and run. That being said I feel good about most categories, but you never know.
@hiltonlive32grnrngrАй бұрын
Try explaining that to Carra's team from the previous episode and Jonathan Brownley's team (or whatever his name is; his team's appearance was in the same episode Dan Avila went for $2.2 million and lost). The sitting contestants of both teams looked super angry with their captains for stopping before $200,000 because to their defense that's actually where the game gets interesting. There was actually one more team much later in the show's run that quit at $100,000 and that was the third college rivalry team. Interestingly they didn't seem to mind stopping at $100K because college kids are generally broke. Besides given the lackluster performance of the two teams before them, them stopping at $100k was excusable.

@@hiltonlive32grnrngr They don't have to like it, but they weren't complaining when the check came in the mail. If I'm the captain and the category sucks for me - idk, Superhero Films or Physics are things I'd be bad at -- I'm taking the ball and going home. People got angry when they got Terminated, too.
@hiltonlive32grnrngrАй бұрын
@@AA-dd3we Fair enough. I can respect that but even in getting the check there's still the dissatisfaction that they could've won so much more. I mean, I'm not entirely disagreeing with you because I can understand not knowing the category and at the end of the day taking home $20,000 (as part of a team's $100,000 pot) pre taxes is better than not getting anything at all but I still wouldn't want you as my team captain. I mean, no offense. It's nothing personal. It's just that as a contestant I would want to play to at least the $200,000 level.

I realized something too. Correct me if I’m wrong - but if Dana had kept the 20k, it would have been the first time a captain took the buyout when the fourth answer on a question was actually correct. I only remember the captain taking the buyout 5 times - 4 at 200K, and Derwin’s at 500K. Are there any others?
@hiltonlive32grnrngrАй бұрын
Actually there have been five teams that bailed on a $200,000 with a $20,000 bribe (Michael Konnick, Matt from 1/6, Gene Disfriend from 1/14, Brad DeMoss, and then Jong Lee from Super Greed). Derwin Cox was the only captain who took a $50,000 bailout bribe on the $500,000 question. But yes as glad as I am that it didn't happen thanks to the audience's intervention Dana would've been the only captain to bail with $20,000 on what would've been a winning $200,000 question.

Is Sylvestor Stallone born the same year as Bill Clinton? Yes! That's one. Is Susan Sarandon born the same year as Bill Clinton? Yes, that's two. How about Jane Fonda? NO, it's not Jane Fonda. Neither it was Tim Allen because Jane Fonda was born in 1937 and Bill Clinton was born in 1946. So we were way off on that one. And Tim Allen wasn't correct either because he was born in 1953. So the two that you were looking for were Dolly Parton and Sally Field. Sorry about that.
