What a beautiful, powerful and empowering story, Sarah!! Watching you design and live a life true to your core values has been a joy and an inspiration. Thanks for role modelling the way! And yes, thank you for the essential reminder for creating and upholding blank no-input processing spaces to reveal the inner knowing xo

Excellent comparison between luck and fortune. I think these terms are often used interchangeably, but great point that when you put a lot of effort into something that ends in success / a positive outcome, that's not luck. it's fortune! I'm very lucky to have found this podcast (didn't do anything to earn it, so I can't say I'm fortunate) 😂

Fascinating conversation, Sarah and Simonne. Your initial discussion recognizing that most generations seem to be leveraging side hustles was interesting. It got me wondering why we are not having the conversation about side hustles as a "shared experience" to unite people across generations rather than pit them against each other.

Never thought of a side hustle as a testing ground for new ideas. That's brilliant - test the waters before fully committing!! Also, happy to hear when employers support side hustles to empower their employees in their endeavors. Thank you for a great discussion Sarah and Simonne 🎉

I'd echo Jennifer's comment. It was a light bulb moment to hear Sarah talk about the power of employers creating accepting and safe spaces to have honest conversations to support side hustles, which, besides employee loyalty, also allows them to prescribe the parameters within which employees could explore those side hustles.

I had no idea there was such a thing as a pre-crastinator. Excellent discussion on the benefits to both types of personalities (pre- and pro-crastinators) when it comes to tackling assignments or tasks. Thank you for sharing this insight and how it can apply to all sorts of scenarios. You guys have a lovely bond and it shows. Looking forward to the next episode!

Well, I procrastinated on my sleep in order to precrastinate (add this word to the set of known words please 😋) on watching this Ted talk, er, podcast. So glad I did! Very well done ... great discussion between a Mom and daughter who obviously adore each other! The explanations helped me realize that I'm more in the middle of pre to pro spectrum than I had realized. Food for thought... thank you!

The trend for decades and will continue through 2023 is that no one reports EE/EX surveys that improved business metrics. The problem is that surveys are typically issued by HR, and HR has almost no ability to force change on disinterested leadership. If in doubt, try to find a single expert, HR Tech company, survey company, or keynote speaker that references successful EE/EX initiatives that impacted business metrics. The tools have grown exponentially, and yet the needle hasn't moved. Conflating data with results is the lifeblood of the talent industry.

Nia greetings from NYC. Just wanted to let you know that I have been obsessed with watching both of the Big Fat Greek Wedding movies plus My Life in Ruins. They are helping me through some pretty heavy duty difficult times. All the best to you and your daughter. A fan and a Greek at heart.

Good advice my friend... Don’t face this alone - have a friend you can confide in - nailed it! Done is better than perfect - there’s no such thing as perfect just various levels of excellence - 😉 Personal self care - yup yup yup... find something(s) that can help you physically, spiritually, mentally emotionally - one can’t drink from an empty cup. Those 3 points make me think of an old sergeant saying something like “doing nothing nothing isn’t an option. Do something, if it doesn’t work then do something else... if there is chaos all about... take a step back to evaluate” Then he tugged on my shirt pulling me backwards and said, “sometimes you have to physically take one step back to engage the mind to step back so that you can ask yourself, what does this need of me?” Smart that guy that old sergeant. He nailed it. I have used that advice many a time. Just like that old sergeant... you NAILED IT!💜!

Agree with this, there's no worse place for tall poppy syndrome than new Zealand schools. Cut down the talented to make others feel better. A toxic culture that ends up making kids feel inadequate, usually lead by underachieving adults.

Great video, Sarah. I was thinking of the saying "Dance like there's no one watching" and how it could be configured in a work context. "Work like everyone is watching."? If one feels invested in what they do, then growth is the motivator. No amount of external PA's will fuel our own creativity and motivation.
