I'm a half South Indian ( due to my mom) and when I was growing up in Pune I was never much acquainted with my other half of me- my culture, my tradition and the way I look due to my genes coming in from my mom's side. When now I'm in my mind 20s , I do wish to get immersed in my South culture, tradition, values . I also secretly wish for a South Indian wedding/ or better a South Indian man 😂

The whole sanctity of the wedding was spoilt by the dancing and the drinking. Why is the bride not wearing the tilakam after the wedding, the jewelry? Why is the bride in black after the wedding? Or was this dancing all before the wedding? not in good taste. Insult to our traditions and the rich meanings that lies behind the symbolism. Nevertheless, wish you the very best in your married life and hopefully one day you will get to understand our traditions better.

Mam, our religion survived by adapting to the current practices/customs while maintaining/safeguarding the core of it. They had a traditional wedding and a modern party or whatever it was. Adaptations are the key to our religion as per me. Without this , we would be stuck to the past customs like others and be mocked about it.

@@shrp007 we don't have to worry about being mocked. We shouldn't blindly adopt Western practices out of inferiority complex. We have our own rich traditions that are worth preserving. Western people follow their tradition, they are so proud about their traditions too. We will follow ours and be proud of ours.

@@sree7465 yes, every jati has its own tradition but if it is a Hindu jati, there are many common elements too. Some Hindu wedding rituals and mantras are the same no matter which jati. But there are some differences as well. These similarities and differences constitute the diversity that is so unique to India.
