I wonder what JS Bach would've appreciated of the prog rock that has been going on since the 1960's?

I honestly thought I was the only person on the planet that felt this way about Camel. All my music history centered around this band. They led me to Pink Floyd and Gryphon and the rest of the progressives. It is such a wonder to watch them for the first time. And the crowd;! I'm not alone. After 45+ years, I'm not the only one.

Around 15.23 they start channelling a future "tool" from the future then Susato-style renaissance, then Yankee Doodle, and then IDK what... these guys are magnificent. And DRUMS and BASS so, so tight throughout it all. My new favourite band

Rush is THE perfect band, imo. Always maintained their personality, redefined what a rock trio can do, made successful albums full of quality and authenticity for progressive rock, the members remained friends for the band's whole career, ended on really good terms. They were what every band wants to be... I'm heartbroken that I'll never get to see them live, but I'm also grateful that I'm alive in a timeline where Rush and their amazing music exists.

This is a collection of comments i am weaving as i am having an 'Oh my God i've just dicovered Gentle Giant 'moment, through the channel 'Make Wierd Music' which has compiled a 25 song spotify introductory playlist to Gentle Giant, I have since discovered thru MWM that Steve Wilson has excellently remixed GG, in my excitement i went over to one of my new favourite channels, the prog/jazz/fusion waffling musicological drumming maestro that is (channel name) Andy Edwards to see if he had a top 10 album reveiw of GG, and sure enough this trustee servant of the prog gospel had not just one but 2 dedicated podcasts (40 mins ish) extolling the virtues of Gentle Giant, in the following paragraph, you will discover what happened to a near lifelong fan of Gong Zappa and Crimson discovering (properly) for the 1st time Gentle Giant, who now wishes enthusiastically to bring these GG loving Prog heroes together for us as fans in the present zeitgeist of podcasting illumination, so if anyone reading this can bring Steve Wilson into the conversation with Make Wierd music, Andy Edwards, and dare i say even the Maestro of the form himself Rick Beato, please weave away and keep me in the loop, because i feel there are some illuminating conversations to be had, with Gentle Giant being the inspired theme to bring us together and see what other topics emerge in such enlightened and learned company. I am as i write listening to 'Gentle Giant Live 70's concert remastered' on the 'sidnei otavio music and video' - soney dj' channel at 3.40am uk time, Sun 5th Jan 2025, i'd left it on a playlist (as a tinnitus ridden muso who needs a podcast of sorts to go to sleep on) i awoke some ways into this concert and have been coaxed into fully gobsmacked wakefulness, and returned to the start of the concert and am fully present and about to make a nice hot cup of tea and revel in these masterpieces. I cant but am attempting to thankyou enough and commented on the sidnei channel thus 'This is astounding, new fan, for someone who has loved crimson zappa and gong for 40 years its fairly unbelievable that i'd only mildly flirted with GG, however this has just thoroughly birthed them into my life, what a fantastical treat, never too late for something wonderfilled to come into your life, wowed. Not since some young friends of mine at a Herb packing (indigo herbs) job i had some years ago introduced me to King gizzard and the wizard lizard in their 7 or 8 album making year have i been so thoroughly astounded, which has inspired me to so profusely communicate. I am off to share this comment on Andy Edwards channel, because this is a revelatory moment for me in early 2025, and in the prog tradition of complete and utter thorough communication and desire to share, i am spirited to have your two great GG loving Prog enthusiast channels further conspire to spread the gospel of such excellence, because music of this calibre is a sorely needed elixer in these times, cor i sound like a new born insert favourite spiritual tradition, only leaves me to quote "MUSIC IS THE BEST". And further Andy to inspire you to reach out to the channel 'make wierd music' to the man who wrote the book 'failure to fracture' on his journey of learning to play this rather dextrous king crimson anthem. From the MWM 'about' section, 'Make Weird Music shines a light on the world’s most creative music. The bigger our spotlight gets, the brighter the light.' they are closing in on 40k subs. Follow us on social: @makeweirdmusic Visit us on the web: makeweirdmusic.com Heres to your two wonderful channels connecting, and i for one as a brand new thanks to you two Gentle Giant fan will be tuning in. @MakeWeirdMusic Further i just went over and found a clip on Rick Beato 2 of him chatting with Steve Wilson about Steves favourite albums and shared this comment, Which brings me back full circle to my original response to finding your homage to, and sharing of, Gentle Giant, which for me is akin to discovering King Crimson when I was 18 years young, hence this enthusiasm, and by my nature, the desire to bring people together, which along with my love of playing and listening to music, seems to have been one of my occupations in life through all sorts of musical media (bands studios venues et al). ) Its now 5:03 am uk time, i am halfway through the concert, ive spent the last hour weaving comments and my tea is luke warm....Momentous Day. Addendum: on a Rick Beato 2 interview with Rick Wakeman clip, This seems like a recent enough and Proggy enough episode to post a comment that i am, along with the great Spirit of Music attempting to get a thoroughly thought out and well curated comment into the Presence of our beloved Rick Beato, any Gentle Giant fans especially, read on: back to the top... Once again, HAPPY NEW YEAR, much love, Cam.

Gentle Giants music is not intended for the masses, it's composed for the musically intelligent listener. Their music is complex, syncopated, and extreme. Not everyone will "get it," which is why I like it. I march to a different musical drummer and so should you.

Waht a pity I never had the chance to attend a GG live show. I know the Christoph Nupen film, as it was brodcast in German TV in August 1975, and it just blew me away then. The acoustic guitar duo of Gary Green and Ray Shulman (RIP!) for sure is the best live performance of this kind.
