Every scene of this movie is a painting. It's the best movie about Napoleon there is.

It really is. Can recommend the Soviet movie War & Peace in case you haven't watched that. It was also directed by Sergei Bondarchuk but they take the living paintings up a notch or two. It's on YT divided into parts and tells the story of Napoleon's invasion of Russia from the Russian perspective.

The reason why Britain chose red coats was because they didn't know what to do with the blood of their enemies.

No it was quite simple, any soldier without a redcoat on was the enemy and it was as simple as that. No redcoat shoot them. Nothing remarkable about it if you are wearing a redcoat it made you a target also. The British knew equally who they were shooting at. There's no big fucking mystery behind the Redcoats other than if you weren't identified as wearing one you could be shot in battle it was an advantage and disadvantage at the same time.

Excellent video, the music works perfectly. Waterloo is fantastic film, those massed cavalry charges are awesome especially the French one with Ney at the head. Its easy to criticise its accuracy in detail it as its compressing a great deal into its run length but it succeeds totally in evoking the brutal yet sometimes thrilling reality of one of the most famous battles in history.

I doubt very much that Blücher would have appreciated being called a mercenary. The plan Wellington and the Prussians agreed upon worked out just fine, if a little suspenseful towards the end.

It was an allied army. The Hessians could be called Mercenaries but had a long tradition of fighting for the British, possibly because of Royal family links.
@JohnCampbell-rn8rz
@JohnCampbell-rn8rz Жыл бұрын
@@craigbeerdozer4197 I don't think the Hessians appreciated being called mercenaries and they were definitely not Prussian. They were hired as auxiliary troops by the British during the Revolutionary War because of their military reputation. Royal connections were secondary considerations, if considered at all. The King's German Legion, which fought for the British at Waterloo, were Hanoverians, not Hessians.

The 'Allied' army had a major part made up of what were later known as 'Dutch-Belgians'. In this film, Napoleon considered them of little importance. Of those fighting at Waterloo, the Allies made up the larger part, which is why Boney tried to fight them separately and muffed it. While the British and Prussians both claim the victory, and some French today claim they didn't lose, or that Napoleon wasn't defeated, 2/3rds of the soldiers under Wellington were that contingent I just mentioned, and whom almost never get mentioned, and made victory possible. Those mentioning the fictitious Sharpe should look into what the riflemen of the 95th did at Waterloo, as they had been paid off, then raised again (mostly without any thought given to paying them), in time for them to shoved into a farm to hold it (entirely the opposite of what they knew how to do); the battle began well for them, holding off a couple of infantry attacks, then they sensibly retired to a place known as the sandpit and stayed there.
