If I recall correctly we got Lost Tapes due to extreme bootlegging of I Am in 98, which was supposed to be a double album with Nastradamus. I Am ended up being rushed with some songs from lost tapes session and a new batch of songs like hate me now feat diddy. Nastradamus was dropped a year later in 99, and is considered his worst album by most. He went through the beef with Jay in 2001, won, and then his victory lapped/recap happened in 2002. He released the lost tapes and then doubled back couple months later with god’s son. When we heard lost tapes we were familiar with some of it, but it’s considered a legit album, it was officially released. This is also a good time to say, nas unreleased/mixtape catalogue is also vast and part of the reason many call him Thee 🐐. I think there’s a version or two of the double disc I Am on KZbin.

The em songs you mentioned were released well after this. Also consider that these records weren’t made in 2002 either. Some were done in the 90s.

I think it’s great you hold this album high, it has a lot of highs on it. Zone out, cross, and hey nas are not my faves. The singles from the album to my recollection were I can and made you look. Thugs mansion if I recall correctly was a Tupac song after he passed that nas used for the album. There are two versions on Tupac 2002 album better dayz. I think it’s wild you don’t like made you look as much, that’s a smash record homie. But as you said, you don’t think it’s a bad song. If you ever see nas live you will know when that record plays lol. Made you look has the classic sample of Apache by michael viner’s incredible bongo band. Check that out for some 🔥music too. You mentioned corazones, this is why it was natural for him to do a corazones, santifica tus escapularios, and other traditional rap songs. In the beginning they all rap rap. I hope the salsa records inspire something in the salsa culture again. That genre is fading/has faded imo.
