I am looking at the Olympic Silverado UX GSILUS-782M spinning rod to fish out here in the bay area, CA. My main target will be halibut/ striped bass ranging anywhere from 17in to 35in. On average the fish I catch are about 24inches. Do you think this rod will be suitable for my needs? I plan on mainly using it off my kayak throwing 1/4oz to maybe 3/4oz jig heads (rod weighted for 5-20g). All I am worried about is if it will have enough backbone for these fish and won't be tip heavy for the weigh I intend to use.

Thank you very much for your comment. I personally never used that rod so I checked the website directly to see if I can answer your question. I believe the power is ok and the range of the lure weigh seems perfect from 1/4 to 3/4 oz. The line range is 0.6-1.0 gou which is eual to 12 - 20 lb so no problem I guess. Hope this information helps. olympic-co-ltd.jp/fishing/products/24-silverado-ux/

@@TOMSATO That’s the same thing I researched. Are medium rated chinning rods less powerful than normal medium rods since they’re lighter? Thanks for your reply by the way.

Sounds like great fishing! Are there fishing guides for bream fishing in Tokyo? I’m from Australia and i catch Australian bream by fly fishing. I’d love to come to Japan and fly fish for Japanese bream!
@TOMSATO28 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment mate! Yeah there are several guides for bream in Tokyo. There is a guide for fly fishing in Shizuoka! I guess bream in Japan is bigger than the one in Australia so must be very fun for you !

@@TOMSATO that looks awesome, I’ll look for a guide soon as I’ll be heading to Japan at the end of August. Our bream are very similar looking to the Japanese bream. Ours can get large but average a bit smaller than the Japanese bream I think. Sighting fishing on the flats would be great!

@@TOMSATO wow those are giant bream😱 Thanks for you help, I’ll definitely go with a guide. Do you think fly fishing around Tokyo would be ok or should I go to lake Hamana?

Damn dude that’s crazy you guys saw that. It’s sad that people feel the need to throw their lives away. I’ve been in a dark spot like that and thankfully I didn’t go through with it. Hope the yen goes up so that I can afford to go back home for a fishing trip some time. I miss catching salmon already.
@TOMSATO29 күн бұрын
Yeah I am so happy that she did not jump from the bridge. Oh yeah it is a tragedy for us that yen is getting so weak....you could still go to lake Nojiri at least. It's too far for me to go but I'm trying to go around summer time with my new car!
use small soft frogs and look for snakehead on the surface land the frog al little in front stop and pause works well

Thanks. I was aiming for PB but I do realize that there are giant snakehead here as well. I will try next time I have a chance!

Yes, Zerek n Rapala are the dominating brands in most tackle shops. Though i find it easier to catch a peacock bass using 1.5inch rubber n 3g jighead when the spot is pressured.
@TOMSATOАй бұрын
Oh than you very much. I understood that it is highly pressured area and finess style works better !

PB lure selection more of finding something to make them aggressively attack it. Not so much about what bait they are eating. lol. Usually similar colouration with the PB with flashes of red works. And they will hit pretty big lures just out of aggression / territory.
@TOMSATOАй бұрын
Oh didn't know that red works for PB. I have much more things to learn to get PB!
