With less than normal snow, some of those predators that you want to trap, may have easier food options. This might be lowering your catch rate.
@northernmnlife85479 ай бұрын
Totally agree I also understand it's part of trapping. It's crazy if ypu sit back and think about it these animals have thousands of acres to roam and im trying to lure them in a small box with a trap. No matter the outcome I love being able to do this and make the videos. Thanks for watching and as always I appreciate your comment. Let's me know people enjoy the videos.
@finsfeathersandbone28239 ай бұрын
A fisher has 5 toes a bobcat has 4 easy to tell difference if ya count them. I also use boxes and 220’s but most my luck comes from footholds. I make a basket similar to a box then cover with pine brows, beaver and muskrats for bait. Sometimes I’ll hang a red squirrel or chipmunk in front also. The problem with boxes is if you’re in a high snowshoe hare area they prefer them over sticking there head in a box I’m in a very high rabbit population makes it difficult but if you have rabbits you HAVE CATS, no doubt. Im in Mn as well but way North by Canada border love the channel started watching ya last year congrats on your marten I got a marten and a fisher this year. So far one bobble
@northernmnlife85479 ай бұрын
I remember talking last year with you. Thanks for the tips always something to learn. Lots of rabbits around here as well. I am in the process of getting some leg hold traps and will have to try to make the waxed dirt. I think more likely to catch at cat that way for sure. Congrats on your catches this year its always nice to get some fur.
@finsfeathersandbone28239 ай бұрын
@@northernmnlife8547 Yes we did chat last year. Boy what a difference in weather ya either love it or hate it lol. I usually put 2 footholds in front of my cubbies and guide sticks also fyi. I would look into Duke 550 offsets they’re a great trap for bobcats and coyotes and cheaper than MB 550’s however I have both but to me they both are excellent traps if you buy some.Good luck hope you get a cat I know you’re trying your tail off you deserve it brother 🤛
@silasberry-pq6fi9 ай бұрын
I like your channel 😊 but it pains me to see you put in so much effort and not catch anything. Quit using those stupid boxes and make real sets and you will start catching 😮
@northernmnlife85479 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and you honesty lol. Here footholds are 24 hour checks I wasn't able to do that when season was on. I do enjoy every minute of if from the trapping to the filming. And just being in nature
@albertaoutdoors92209 ай бұрын
I use boxes. Never slowed me down. I usually don’t set on the ground though. We would loose almost all our catches to squirrel/ moose damage as well as coyote and foxes eating everything Leaning pole Set works good as a marten and fisher double duty. My biggest learning curve was the attractant or lure that I used. A more skunky lure seemed to bring in more fishers. If I was approaching my fisher limit I would stop using the skunky lures and the catches start to favour marten again. But I’m in northern Alberta and I’m sure the animals behave differently to some extent Funny though how the same bait with a different lure can produce different
@northernmnlife85479 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info. I use hellfire in almost all my sets. I check pretty often I do understand thay sooner or later something will come along and eat my catch. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.

I also use boxes, on the ground, skunky lure and save all my grouse carcasses to throw a head or a wing or whatever in the box, scatter a few feathers around.
