How are you going to open the window
@HotkeysPortugal18 сағат бұрын
The windows each have one of the panes hinged both at the side and at the bottom, so we have it both ways. They work really well and we are very pleased with them.

I find it very Interesting watching small homes being renovated, have watched a few now, I would love to move to Portugal, I can't at the moment but its on my mind. Also I wondered how you would manage being diabetic on insulin, they have NHS would it be the she as UK.
@HotkeysPortugal18 сағат бұрын
Thanks Sandra that’s very kind of you. The healthcare in Portugal is very good, and has been a great backup when needed. We are still UK registered as we are only here half time under the residency rules post-Brexit, so it is more of a planning exercise to get enough meds dispensed in England to cover each trip. We are managing well so far. If we eventually go for full residency we’ll report on how that changes things.

ARE THE TIN Y HOUSES SO SMALL BECAUSE THEY WERE FOR FOR FARMERS AND A DOG.
@HotkeysPortugal18 сағат бұрын
Not sure, they are famous for small rooms though, and often were overnight shelters rather than permanent dwellings. We are trying hard to understand how ours was used as we go through the renovation and rebuild. Our Tiny House had a kitchen that has collapsed, but had no door to the other room, so they had to step outside to move between the rooms, again very common here. Fascinating stuff.

Why do you show the same episodes over and over and over again I’ve seen these at least three times each three or four times each KZbin keeps playing the same stuff where everybody else they put it on KZbin and then it goes away and you get another episode you guys it’s the same thing over and over again. I’d like to follow you, but I can’t keep seeing the same thing over and over again why is that?
@HotkeysPortugalКүн бұрын
We’re sorry you feel that way Camille. We have no control over what KZbin feeds you, and we have published over 60 unique episodes so there is a lot of variety for you to see if you look at our channel.

One thing I noticed about watching most of the Portugal KZbinrs are the wind is can get quite great around there in the rain in the winter is the worse. I don’t know if you have problems with water or around your place, but a couple of the people that I watch Except like Cindy and her pig farm it gets quite windy in the summer. There is a drought, but I don’t know how far south or north she is somewhere around an hour away fondue I might be saying that wrong on though
@HotkeysPortugal2 күн бұрын
It varies by location - further east tends to have more extremes of heat, cold, wind and rain. Our little pocket is quite sheltered, but we still get the odd storm and high winds, but nothing as bad as some we see on here.

That would make a nice little nook for a candle or something or some kind of light like I said, I like the old decorations in these things

Oh yes, we’re looking at all the options to keep the old features, they are a lovely reminder of who and what was there before.

I just love those ovens inside the kitchen. I love the old charm that those houses had. As old as that house is, I think they had rebar back then.
@HotkeysPortugalКүн бұрын
It’s been a patchwork of additions over the years. The whole tiny house we think was built 40 or 50 years ago, and there is certainly some rebar in the blockwork.

May be a silly question but putting a gutter on the back end where the rain comes down and divert it away from the house. Would that sound like a good idea I don’t know. Or save the rainwater for the use in the kitchen. I don’t know what to set up. Is there yet?
@HotkeysPortugal3 күн бұрын
Thanks Judy, not silly at all, the long plan is exactly that - rainwater collection into a storage tank below the kitchen area alongside a grey water harvesting system so that all the water in and from the kitchen area is saved and used. There’s a bit of engineering and construction before we get there but we are on track for it. 🌧️🚰😎🛠️🇵🇹

Maybe if you empty the bags into the wheelbarrow and then empty the wheel barrel out that would be easier on both of you
@HotkeysPortugal3 күн бұрын
We tried that and found the barrow was quite heavy to tip - it turned out easier to handle the bags one by one - experimentation led us to a conclusion. 💪

Have you considered putting some of the composted soil that was cleared from around the land around Basil? And maybe making a soil ring around the tree so it collects and retains more water for the root bulb?

For the rain water collection, search for epic homestead grey water - he did a couple of videos on the installation and how it works. It can give you some ideas of what it involves to install.

Going to be super interesting following along with your journey as the project unfolds 👍. I’m presuming you’re taking all the buildings down & pouring a new insulated floor with damp proof footings , recycling the best of the stone for interior feature walls. Hopefully the planning process goes smoothly & does not get tied up in Portuguese bureaucracy. Thanks for sharing your story 👍
