You need to look at Tiana's closet. Masses of patterns. It used to be a problem that the patterns weren't layered, and as the stitch lines were also on the pattern, so print outs were very complicated to trace. All her later patterns are now layered which makes them much more accessible. Again limited instructions, but her site also includes many blogs on sewing techniques so if it's a blouse with a sleeve places, there will be an associated blog. It has many lovely patterns so definitely worth a look.

I've seen a lot of of similar tutorials and they tend to top stitch the outer fabric only, not the liner -- I always worried the liner could get caught in the zipper if it wasn't included in the top stitching, so I was happy to see you do topstitch through both layers. I think I'll do it that way next time, too! Great tutorial, thank you! :)

I have never had the lining get caught in the zipper if it is not included in the stitching next to the zipper. You have a better outcome with the ends if the lining is not included in that stitching line. Eliminates the bulk and the tabs have a smoother look. Pressing the top fabric and lining away from the zipper front and back is the answer to keep that lining from getting caught in the zipper when not stitched down with the top fabric. All the zipper bags that I have purchased do not have the lining sewn down. Check pre made bags in the stores and see how they are made. Lots of good ideas.

If I wanted the sides to be wider, so that the bag could hold larger objects, would I just adjust the boxing out step and use a measurement larger than the 6 cm you used? Also, is there a type of fabric that would work best (or perhaps what to avoid) for this type of project (outside and lining) so that it would be able to carry heavier objects? Thank you in advance.
@asewinglife
@asewinglife Ай бұрын
Hi. Yes if you want it to be wider, use a measurement larger than the 6 cm. Bear in mind that will make the height of the bag smaller then. What I would do is cut out a wider piece of fabric, dependant on how wide you want it to be. I would use a fabric that is strong such as denim or calico or twill, even possibly an upholstery fabric that is more durable. Go for something heavy and thick that has a good stability to it. I hope that helps.

Found your channel via this video, some great patterns, had no idea about a few of these! Just some more info on Peppermint - it's a lifestyle magazine that has a sewing pattern in every edition.
