How does “burn in the lines” on a fairway affect the way the turf grows? I’ve been told to treat the fairway like a green, which we try to mow in a different pattern each time.

I work on a 36 hole course, but on the equipment maintenance side of things. It’s me and the head equipment manager and it’s really hard to maintain all of the equipment it doesn’t help the workers here are very hard on the equipment. Just very careless in general. Constantly leaving trash on the equipment and putting away things that need repair without telling us. The schedule is nice imo. 5am to 1pm can’t beat that.

10:40 I am a member of a club in Florida and for the last five years the board on the first hole has indicated the greens are 11 on the stimp. That number has NEVER changed which is very frustrating because some days the greens roll at 9 and some days they roll at 13! Needless to say, our grounds supt. should take lessons from this supt!

Why not just take the whole plug? You can still fill it out or brush off some sand from the bottom of the plug if it's not flush... Never seen a hole changed like that

I haven't been a greenkeeper now for 27 years ...In 1994 when I finished at our local 9 green/18 tee course with a lawn bowls green also to maintain we were struggling financially . All I had was the following ...Two 24 " Series 65 Scott Bonnar greens mowers and the 30 " electric bowls mower ..A triple gang Ransomes fairway mower (wheel drive) pulled by a general use tractor . Ride on surrounds mower , two Honda lawn mowers , a Flymo mower , Multicore aerator for hollow or solid tynes , a scarifyer , 150 litre spray unit , two brush cutters , line trimmer , hedge saw , chainsaw , petrol powered roller , mower transport trailer , heavy slasher P.T.O drive ...and all the normal hole changer and hand tools ...Now the club has some Toro , John Deere , Kubota and other grooming tools and soon to replace the triplex greensmower with a near new reconditioned one ..Just the same I miss every second of working on the golf course that I'm now a life member of but still love to be involved with working bees and projects whenever they occur ...Really enjoyed this video very much...Thanks for posting ..

Walk mower guy has zero technique and is doing it incorrect (hand/feet movement). We walk mow our greens every day, 6 mowers and hand rake 57 bunkers. Also a cup setter is made so there is no mound, you don’t need your feet to level it out. Mowing tees 5 times a week? Don’t think that’s an efficient time/money management thing when you complain about time for projects. And a consistent lunch at 11? No way people are going to get done around the same time. My god

From the courses I've worked on I've never seen a working seatbelt on a machine. I also wouldn't want to be strapped in when the greens mower goes slipping into a creek because the slopes wet on the turn around. Rarely happens but I've seen it twice.
@wjfaflak
@wjfaflak 5 жыл бұрын
GhoulRomance Hard hats are a liability. Golfers think you are safe and hit at you rather than wait patiently for the workers “ signal to go” Seat belts are unsafe for the same reason. Plus IF you are in a tip-over situation the first thing that would happen is your hardest would fall off, then you would land on your bare head with a mower on top of you strapped to your ass. If you don’t know what you’re talking about, just keep shut up
@Drizzly_ssb
@Drizzly_ssb 5 жыл бұрын
@@wjfaflak I've worked 2 PGA courses in Texas and have seen these things happen. Mowers slide into creeks and flip, people are idiots, especially golfers. I'm advocating against seatbelts and hard hats. Waste of time and unsafe, I also dont know why anyone would need a hard hat. I've been hit by golf balls on a fairway mower. I can almost say with certainty that the regulars playing every single day on most courses are terrible at the game, and are more likely to hit you when you are in the woods waiting g for them to hit than if you just stay in the middle.
@Jmo1634
@Jmo1634 5 жыл бұрын
@@wjfaflak I've been working in golf for years. You clearly don't understand how ROPS work. I won't argue with your opinion on hardhats, I can't stand them myself. That said, golfers tend to be rude enough to hit at you, with or without a hardhat. My point was less about the function of safety equipment and more about the lack of it in the video. If I was making a video showing how we do things at our course, I'd want to make sure we were using the required PPE and working safely. But I'll just keep shut up, cause I don't know what I'm talking about. Since you managed to decide form my short comment that I have zero experience or knowledge on the issue. Have a nice day.

Why in the world would you want to “burn” in a pattern on fairways. Healthy turf will stripe very vibrant with one good mow. Maybe learn how to grow turf grass and how to maintain fairway mowers properly.

Great video! Very well explained, i too work on a golf course and the daily maintenance on the course is tiresome but worth it, but it seems you've got the right people doing the right jobs, i along with two others work on an 18 hole course, not so much in the way of bunkers, but big fairways and roughs, we use two 4500s to mow roughs, two fwys units on fwys, we don't walk mow greens, it's too time consuming, anywho i could keep going but that's enough for now,
