@dicetopixels part of it is, it's so hard to track where players are in scoring with all the damn cards and the tiny text on them. Also when I was playing it was on the sh*t base player boards that are so easy to mix up you tokens.

Canadian tables were nearly the last shipped from the first Kickstarter. You need to come over sometime and see mine. I picked a Maple Wargame table. I have it set up and love it, however it's covered in shit for us sorting out the office and such. I did get to play some games on it and had a lot of fun. I'm pretty sure the first kickstarter for the MGT is totally shipped. There was a second and now there's a third iirc.

1. I very rarely play either, but I’ve had better experiences with rogue-lites than with rogue-likes. 2. I never delete a save-you never know when you’ll come back to a game, and it’s nice to have options besides starting completely over. I’ve gone back and finished games with 8-10 years between saves. 3. If it’s a dungeon crawl, sure, bring on player death. I leave it out of games where players have developing narrative arcs.

I think you unknowingly touched on the reason why PlayStation is focusing most of its resources on Live Service Games now... Single player gamers dont spend money. Too many SP gamers wait for sales while Live Service players love the games they play and will fork down $20 bucks for a new skin.
@katieclarke3269 ай бұрын
There are very few games that I have ever paid full price on. Mind you, I'm not a huge gamer. I would rather wait, watch a few videos of other people playing the game and make my decision from there. Those have kind of become my demos. I think the only games that I would even think about paying full price on are Last of Us and Ghost. Even though I know Last of Us will emotionally scar me for ever
@dicetopixels9 ай бұрын
There's a very valid argument for streaming/youtube vids becoming the "new demo". Spnosored vieos doubly so!
@bigbox14319 ай бұрын
The reason why studios are pursuing Live Service is twofold. 1. Gamers prefer it. The Live Service market is already larger than the traditional SP market and it's growing while SP has stagnated for years. 2. AAA SP games are getting less and less profitable as costs skyrocket and sales don't. I think you guys are a little blinded by your preferences. The strategy is sound.
@dicetopixels9 ай бұрын
We'd be very interested in your source for "gamers prefer it". The sentiment market (awards, reviews, etc) in general definitely does not bare that out. They make more money, but that doesn't equate to a bulk of gamers preferring them. Going by dollars alone, mobile is the category to beat by a wide margin. Also keep in mind that Chad and Adrian have both logged more hours (by miles and miles) in live service games than any other type. We don't dislike them at all (well, Sarah does a bit!)
@bigbox14319 ай бұрын
@@dicetopixels If you look at the top 20 most played games on PlayStation each month, roughly 17 of them are multiplayer Live Service. This is doubly impressive when you realize the industry has historically spent significantly more time and money making SP games. I think PlayStation leadership saw a market imbalance (not enough Live Service games) and is going to do really well over the next few years on their Live Service games. Helldivers 2 already looks like a smash hit. I just think Live Service generally fixes a lot of the problems that have plagued traditional priced games for decades.
@bigbox14319 ай бұрын
@@dicetopixels Investment doesn't pursue accolades...it pursues revenue. The Live Service segment of the market is already larger than the traditional segment of the market but it's also still growing whereas the traditional model has plateaued for years. If you look at PlayStations top 20 most played games each month, roughly 17 of them are multiplayer Live Service. I think if anything the market is underserved at the moment. Just look at Helldivers 2. It's now the biggest AA PS5 exclusive in existence. They're having trouble keeping servers up due to load. I think it's quite clear at this point that Live Service still has lots of room to grow, whereas the traditional model has plateaued for years. Great show!
@dicetopixels9 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right about the money -- live service has a much bigger potential there, it'll be interested to see if this year's awards/reviews/etc favour the live service side of things. Though mobile will probably continue to outstrip it in revenue, just because... well... mobile.
@bigbox14319 ай бұрын
@@dicetopixels I tend to think old media prefers traditional style, single player games. Who's giving out GotY awards? Mostly old gaming media. That being said, I don't think Arrowhead Studios would trade all the success they're seeing now for Housemarques (Returnal) acclaim. The ultimate goal is to make money, not win cheesy awards.

I respectfully reject the premise. The defence calls Hazelight’s “It Takes Two” to the stand. Take away its third dimension and, I challenge, you take away the soul of its platforming, to say nothing of the joy.
@dicetopixels10 ай бұрын
I will absolutely put it on the list to try out! Perhaps Chad and I (Adrian) can even stream it.
@nelixholland595810 ай бұрын
@@dicetopixels Please do, I'm confident you won't regret it. Hazelight is a studio to watch. A friend and I played it couch co-op , and we both remarked afterward that it had been since our childhood that we'd had such fun with a platformer. I think a 2D version would struggle, especially with (slight gameplay spoiler) the asynchronous genre shifts.

I haven't played d&d since the ogl & Lizards of the Coast has continuously show themselves to be a reprehensible corporation. There're so many creators making interesting games so why are you continuing to buy content from WOTC? They just laid off a huge percentage of their creative employees then gave the executives huge bonuses. The people who actually made the game you like got shit on right before Christmas, do you not care?
