Try a heat soak at 400c for ten minutes it will blue the surface and prevent further oxidation (200 years of gunsmithery cant be wrong)! churrs DL! (and missus)
@Deadlocks8612 күн бұрын
@qutube100 the idea is good. Will stop the rust in it's tracks. Problems tho are. I don't have that kind of equipment and to my knowledge there whernt any blued HIATT cuffs. Trying to keep them a bit more origional. I'm going to wax them when there polished up to try and stop the rust. I have some wax that will elegedly do that. So this will be a good test cause we know they are re rusting. If that fails, there are some cold blueing options that I know some people have had some success with. That could end up being an additional experiment. Looking purely from a stopping the rust perspective you have the right idea. Would work well. Thanks for watching

Just a thought, have you considered limescale remover? You could leave the cuffs in soak and it'll be a bit stronger than vinegar. Probably best to try that method out on something else first. Good luck! Eagerly following your progress.
@Deadlocks8612 күн бұрын
@keithmower921 I had not. Don't see why it wouldent work on normal rust since it's mainly acid. But I actually got some canny strong acid from work to try. That done nothing to the black rust nether. On the plus side there is another video of them cuffs going live today👍. Thanks for watching👍

@RandomJim42 and it works. It's acidic. So works on the same principle as the vinegar. But it's a bit weaker. If you stick a dirty copper coin in cola over night it will be shiney in the morning
@RandomJim42Ай бұрын
if you say so it must work then, I just never had to use myself. Rusty stuff I had to clean I always could reach and couldn’t mess up using a grinder or sander
@Deadlocks86Ай бұрын
@RandomJim42 it will work, but I'd also imagine that there are some videos online that are faked still. I don't think it would be as good as evaporust. And yeah. I'd go grinder if that's an option 🤣

@techwgАй бұрын
Not bad so far! But having seen that key thing happen several times before in non-rusted cuffs, I really think that is just down to the key not being the right one for that set of cuffs. Hiatt were sneaky and made various different versions of the threading in order to prevent prisons from making new spare keys on their own easily. It could be rust in your case though, I don't know. But it is a highly familiar situation.
