I start with a wet sand. Hot water in a spray bottle with a 150 flexible sponge pad. Wipe with a tiler's sponge when done. This cleans the base and quarter-round quickly and BACKS UP THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY!!.............you know, the one on the paint can.

Is that mold or just dirt? If it's mold he just painted over it and didn't get rid of the problem. If it's just dirt, they didn't wipe that stuff off with a wet rag and went ahead and just painted over it😖😖

This is a great video. Having said that, imagine paying a guy hours to do this, instead of just ripping it out, installing new one instead.

Why not use a rubber glove to smooth caulk? Smoother finish. Also I've heard to use rubbing alcohol vs water since the caulk won't stick.

This is what I’m dreading because ALL of my baseboards in my house look like this. After the house has been repainted so many times lazily (some places still have old painter tape)… I’ve resigned to saving money to replace it. Ugh.

Please post up some more videos of your work. I’m a 71 year old widow who does as much of my own home handiwork as possible because so few contractors take the time to do things with this level of perfection. I appreciate the tutorial and will be applying what you’ve taught me to the baseboards in my home after the New Year. Again, thank you and please resume posting! Best wishes!

You need to be careful putting painters tape on finished hardwood floors. The tape is meant for painted drywall, not floors. The tape can rip the coating off the hardwood floors. Learned this the hard way.

I'm learn-ding! I love how you saved some nice baseboard. I would mention though- if the house is really old you have to be super careful dealing with lead-based paint. I subscribed, but looks like you stopped making videos. Bummer!!

This is really the minimum in homes 50+ yrs old…I was thinking, how do you know the paint on the base is not oil base? I guess assuming the base material is PVC one could expect everything to be latex….and therefore you can use latex primer.

Great video for a DYIer. You're an excellent instructor...calm, and easy to understand. I'm not sure about the word caulk though...I think the l is silent and it should rhyme with "talk". Not a biggie really, just a mention. Thank you for taking the time for everyone's benefits.

I have been a painter and decorator since leaving school and I’m now retired, I also worked for 2 years teaching at craft school. I have worked high end properties including 10 Downing Street and most of the 5 star hotels in London and also properties in the Pacific Palisades in LA. I’m here to tell you that if you need that amount of protection to paint a baseboard then you need to get a different job.

you should have removed that poorly nailed quarter round - clean it up and reinstall it or replace it . when you applied the caulk smooth it in with a putty knife to get a tight and squared finish ... your finger leaves a rounded curve in the caulk
