David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Monday, 7 October, 2024) Builders of this kit, for another perspective on detailing it, first take a close look at this video: “Tamiya 1:48 G4M1 Rikko (Betty)” (rebelsatcloudnine, Saturday, 25 February, 2017), which shows the assembly of the Tamiya 1:48th-scale kit of the Mitsubishi G4M1 Imperial Japanese Army twin-engine bomber (Allied code name “Betty”). You can use this to make more accurate the smaller model. The box evidently includes the unit markings for the personal transport of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and planner of their attack upon Pearl Harbour, when on 18 April, 1943s the USAAF’s Lockheed P-38G Lightning Twin-Engine Single-Seat Fighter-Interceptors shot down his aircraft and the three escorts-another “Betty”, and two Mitsubishi A6M Zero Fighters-accompanying him. A suggestion: create a forced perspective ærial diorama (FoPÆD) of combat aircraft in various scales (here, just two), the smaller models behind the larger. First, acquire one of Tamiya’s G4M1 bomber kit (its tail number is “H 324”, whilst the Sword replica’s is just “323”), one of their 1:48th-scale P-38G Lightning model, an A6M Zero model in that scale, and 1:72nd-scale kits of the latter two. Second, build them all airborne (propellers spinning, undercarriage retracted, their doors closed, the crew figures in their seats, etc.). As this is a highly dramatic encounter, one must position the flight controls sharply deflected to illustrate such highly dynamic movement of sharp manœuvres. The USA’s warbirds swiftly dove upon their quarry from high altitude. Meanwhile, the enemy pilots were caught completely unawares, so their planes would be falling to the Pacific Ocean, in mere seconds having suffered catastrophic damage.

@@ScaleModelsJPN Paul Freilers was in Torrance CA back when and closed his two model shops around the 1990s. He displayed some nice scratche built Models and now the location is a chicken sandwich location. I remember a 1/48 B-29 that was a good scratch built diorama. He built some models like a car for James Garner that was a replica of a car Garner drove in a movie.

Hi! Lockheed Constellation and Super Constellation are ones of most elegant aircraft ever designed. I was not aware that there was a military varriant of Connie!... The kit is surely not something to write home about but the model looks fine in the end. PS: I've been missing your kit assessment. Glad to see it back! 👍

Nice video and very nice build .To bad that Academy got all the small windows wrong giving the model a rather cheap and toy like look....if you know what the real plane looked like . They corrected this on their E, F and G models so strange they did not upgrade the early models . Otherwise a fine kit .

Interior to the rear of the cockpit was dark green then aluminium from there rearwards. Instructions are not correct. The circle engraved either side of part A21 is a porthole and requires drilling out and fitting with a clear part. More research needed on your model.

I have been to the crash site of one of the british B-17Cs . The waist gunners compartment was definitely the american Zink Chromate Green ( not a british color ) . Perhaps this was only applied to aircraft going to brittain , I dont know . A color photo of a YB-17 with the crew door open appear to show an unpainted interior . The later F and G models were unpainted in that area ( probably also the E ).

Thank you so much for your quick response. What I've decided to do is to initially prime the interior fuselage and other parts Vallejo Black Primeer and then apply my base coat using AK acrylic brick red AK 11093. Once that's completed I'm going to seal the process with a Matt Alclad II Clear Kote Varnish.. Then I'm going to try and paint the geodetic pattern and using AKI's new acrylic aluminum paint pen. I will forward the pictures to you when I'm completed again thank you very much for your rapid response.

Hello w how many hours does IT take yOu to make this model excluding drying time and do yOu recommend this model . Does IT fit well?
@ScaleModelsJPN5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Assembly time is approximately 30 hours. Fitting is ★★★★☆. There is a gap in the machine gun parts on the main wing, so some putty work is required. You need to move the propeller backwards. I shaved the engine and moved the propeller to the back.

I was always fascinated by this plane in the RAF museum from first going there in about 1973 as a 10 year old, to frequent visits in the 90s which would include a visit to Hannants models next to Hendon tube station. I thought they must've been very small people to fit in, my 6ft 4" frame wouldn't fit in the back pilots position, or the position under the wing, that and the Cygnet, must've been built for people of 5ft stature. But the Caudron iii is a beautiful aircraft, all the woodwork, it always captivated me. I've often thought of attempting this kit, but I've only recently tried to get back into modelling, but so far my attempts have fallen apart like my patience and eyesight. I've just ordered an ICM Gladiator in 1/32, maybe if it works out and I intend rigging it, I'll consider this kit. You've done an excellent job of it, very inspiring. Thr G 4 twin engine Caudron in 1\48 looks good too, but I've got to attempt the Gladiator in Finnish 'Winter War' with ski 'boots' on first. Hopefully it'll be more of a success.
