Great loop, Doug! Feeling the side effects of a vaccine shot yesterday morning, I had to hang it up around 10:45pm, luckily *after* the red/green ray burst between 10-10:30pm. I got my best photos then from the Pinckney Rec Area alongside Jack Underwood. I wondered what we might have missed if I forced myself to stay up. Good thing I didn't.

I wish we had skies like you. I live in Paisley, 10KM West of Glasgow an we don't have a night sky, Only LED street lamps and PIR 'security lamps' turning night into day. You are SO lucky.

Is this the xx14g? Curious because, under all of Orion's coverage... they state it has it's own built in wifi hotspot. So you can wirelessly connect your phone to it without need for an external dongle. I'm guessing perhaps it's an older 14" model?
@DougBock_BoonHill3 жыл бұрын
This is the 2012 version of the xx14g. I bought the separate wifi hub at that time as well. I can run the scope with my IPAD using SkySafari PRO. I see they've incorporated the wifi into the system now. That's great.

@@DougBock_BoonHill thanks for your reply. I was curious, since a bit of miscellaneous information... seems to be omitted from resellers. I'm eyeing the 14 in a private sale. Got to use one recently using the tele vue pieces, I dont recall the particular degree of the set... however, its leagues different from anything I've used in the past. Its truly an impressive beast. I wish you clear skys! Thanks again!

It lists the "Optical tube" for the "Orion SkyQuest XX14i IntelliScope Truss Dobsonian Telescope" as weighing 29 Kg. At that rate, it would make more sense for me to buy a C14 (21 Kg weight) ! However, I don't know quite what they mean by "Optical tube" since it looks like it's in several parts. How heavy is that part with the Primary mirror in, that you are lifting into the base?
@LiveSteamMad3 жыл бұрын
Oh I see, the "lower section" with the primary weighs 55 Pounds ;- www.cloudynights.com/articles/cat/cn-reports/new-cn-reports-in-monthname/cn-reports-review-orion-skyquest-xx14i-r2495

In addition, a C14 with mount is about 3 times the price. ;)

I've got the 12" version. I hate putting on the forward tube assembly on the trusses. Love the scope otherwise. BTW, I've got the Baader Sky Surfer V finder (it's wonderful).

Hello young man, Ive had the 16" for a year now, finally got mine to track, started using a reticle eyepiece to center my alignment stars and presto it works, Ive been doing 10, 20, 30 second exposures and they're slightly blurry with a hint of star trail maybe, any thoughts? How hard do you screw down your outside clutches on your scope? thanks for video, clear skies
@DougBock_BoonHill3 жыл бұрын
I snug them up just enough that the scope slews fine, no tighter. I do NOT use this for astrophotography.

What an excellent piece of equipment. How is it holding up into 2021?
@DougBock_BoonHill4 жыл бұрын
The only issue thus far is the perimeter ring on the lower base has come loose. It is a rubber/plastic ring that surrounds the edge of the base plate. Just had to glue it back into place.
