only ever saw alex higgins once- i went to the tolly cobbold classic in ipswich sometime in late 70s/early 80s- he wasnt playing that night but we all went into the bar during the interval of the game we were watching and lo and behold alex higgins was playing on one of the fruit machines, drinking beer, and accompanied by two dolly birds- i went up to shake his hand , he shook mine without even having the courtesy to look at me and carried on playing the machine as if i didnt even exist- i was instantly star struck ! what a character
