Thank you for the question. In gymnosperms, the female gametophyte is called endosperm while in angiosperms the female gametophyte is called embryo sac. Kindly note the difference. Thank you for your comment. In the endosperm of gymnosperms, archegonia develop from a single superficial cell called the archegonial initial at the micropylar end of the endosperm.
