That's a beautiful rendition. Mind sharing your setup on this like tones, pickup dials, pedals? Have the viola as well and your tone sounds almost similar to the record. TIA!

I have flatwound strings (D'Addario XL ECB81 - 45-100), no pedals, direct on my DAW (Ableton Live). My DAW has a bit of compression, but not very much, and a little reverb. That's all 😊. The sound is really on the hands. For this bass I have to palm mute the strings, otherwise it doesn't sound good. I'm using a 1.0 mm pick as well. Thanks for watching!

I forgot to mention the dials... I was using full neck pickup, and a quarter on the bridge pickup, if I remember correctly.

What strings do you recommend for this Epiphone Viola? Thanks!

Hello! I'm using flatwound strings specifically designed for long-scale bass (D'Addario XL ECB81 - 45-100). Epiphone Viola uses medium scale bass strings so keep that in mind. I had to clip the end of the strings so it would fit (The E string was a tough one to install). Luckly the modern tuning pegs from the Epiphone Viola allowed me to do so. Do more research on forums or on KZbin. Happy playing!

Squier have amazing basses! Specially from their high-end series. I would avoid the more affordable ones like the Affinity Series (which are not bad but it needs a good setup), but if you plan to mod it, even the Affinity ones are worth it. Have a good day.

If you learned it from the 'Beatle Bible' scores book that would explain a lot of how it mislead some of your note choices in particular sections - that book is full of major errors concerning Paul's bass work. He seldom played the same passage the same way when it came back 'round. Most Beatle bass books cut and paste verse chorus, etc - and it's a real shame as it downright edits out some of Paul's best innovation from recorded history.

Thank you! Pany Lane does not belong to the same catalogue owned by the Sony/ATV. The same happens with some other songs from the first album Please, Please Me, owned by Nothern Songs. KZbin is not blocking Pane Lane for now. I had recorded many other Beatles songs that were indeed blocked by YT. I know that Paul and Yoko are finally co-owning most of Lennon/McCartney songs together with Sony/ATV, and I hope they change the policy of blocking YT videos... Thanks for watching. It is a great mix of counterpoint and Macca's love of a 'walking' bass line...btw, it was played on his Rickenbacker, not on his Hofner (or an Epiphone copy!)

Back in 1968 our top 40 band covered this, I was 17, I’m now 72 and I can’t believe I played these bass lines and now..I can’t..still have 5hat Hagstrom Bass and Fender Bassman Amp..maybe I should pick that Bass up again..😊
