So, why was it shut off 🤔 isnt it supposed to be on?
@krazzy64409 ай бұрын
I'm not an expert on this, but I believe it's shut off because there is a safety mechanism that will dump water if you inject too much water into the loop as to not overload the system with water causing the pressure to be imbalanced. On my system there is this same lever he turned and two bell shaped doo-hickies that have levers on them. One bell has a lever on it that you can manually lift to drain water and the other bell after it automatically will eject water if the loop is exceeding capacity. If you left the lever he turned on in the video in the flowing state, the bell shaped ejector devices would have water gushing out of them until you shut the fresh water supply lever off. Still trying to figure out my system myself. Hope another expert can chime in on how this functions more. TL;DR: If you leave that lever turned on you will inject too much water into the system and the fail safes will eventually dump water onto the floor or over pressurize your system if there are no fail safe ejectors installed. Might burst a pipe if left on.

This is a steam boiler due to having the sight glass he is referencing. If you leave the valve on all the time it will flood the system and water will come out of the radiator vents getting your floors and carpeting wet upstairs. Some steam boilers do have auto-water feeders to maintain the water level but it only maintains it at the lowest operating level. The water level should be maintained by the homeowner, usually about 3/4 of the way up the tube. Manufacturers will put this level in the boiler manuals. That specific boiler is 28-5/8" from the floor or base the boiler is sitting on.

Jesus H call a plumber dude. If you fill your boiler with too much water ( pressure ) you’re going to blow your relief valve. And if it’s a forced hot water system you’re going to get boiling hot water coming out and if it’s steam you’ll be in the hospital.

Water company just replace their meter yesterday and now I have no heat. Do you think them turning off the water for their repair couldve affected my boiler?
@mptr178311 ай бұрын
pilot is lit, and boiler fires up, but doesnt circulate hot water to baseboards. Drained some water out and a lot of air in the system. Do you think turning off the main water(when meter was replaced) couldve affected the system since it seemed to have lost its prime? Or should I be looking for a leak somewhere under the crawlspace? SEems odd that the problem developed right after meter was installed
@teardowndan53649 ай бұрын
@@mptr1783 If the fill line had no check valve, then the system may have drained out while the water main was disconnected. In that case, you may want a check valve and expansion tank installed to prevent boiler water from back-feeding into your fresh water lines.

Most outdoor faucets have an air bleeder screw that needs to be vented to let the remaining water in the line out. This is similar to holding your thumb on a straw....once u let your thumb off the straw the water can come out. Also the hose needs to be removed.
@v8snail11 ай бұрын
If you take the hose off you'll let air into the pipe and the water will drain properly.
